Anita Overview
You know what’s funny about Dubrovnik? Everyone gets so focused on staying inside the Old Town walls that they miss gems like Hotel Anita up in Gornji Kono. I mean, sure, it’s a solid 15-minute walk down to all the tourist madness, but honestly – that’s exactly why I loved it there.
The place sits in this quiet residential area where you actually hear Croatian being spoken instead of just cruise ship announcements. It’s one of those family-run spots that feels more like staying with relatives who happen to be really good at hospitality. The building itself is nothing fancy – think clean lines, white walls, that Mediterranean simplicity that works so well in the heat. But here’s the thing about those 3 stars: they clearly don’t account for the fact that the owners actually give a damn. My room was spotless (I mean, you could eat off the bathroom tiles), and the air conditioning worked like a dream, which… if you’ve been to Dubrovnik in July, you know that’s not always guaranteed even at fancier places.
The real magic happens when you step outside though. Most mornings I’d grab coffee from the little bakery around the corner – locals queuing up for fresh burek, kids on their way to school – and then take that gorgeous walk down toward the old city. The route winds through actual neighborhoods where laundry hangs from windows and grandmothers sit on stoops watching the world go by. By the time you reach Pile Gate, you’ve had your morning exercise and a proper Croatian cultural experience rolled into one. Plus, and this is crucial, when you’re done battling the crowds on Stradun or melting on the city walls, you can escape back up to Gornji Kono where there’s actually a breeze and blessed quiet. I’d often see other tourists looking absolutely fried, trying to nap on benches in the old town, while I was heading home to a peaceful afternoon by the hotel’s little terrace.
The staff – well, they’re the type who remember your name by day two and start asking about your family by day four. They’ve got that Adriatic warmth down to an art form, but they’re also incredibly practical. Need a dinner reservation? They’ll call their cousin. Want to know the best time to visit the walls? They’ll tell you 7 AM, and they’re absolutely right. The breakfast spread won’t win any awards, but the coffee is proper strong, the local cheese is excellent, and honestly, you’re in Croatia – you should be eating lunch at a konoba anyway.
Look, if you need a spa, a pool, or room service, this isn’t your spot. But if you want to stay somewhere that feels authentic, where you can actually sleep at night without street performers outside your window, and where you’ll save enough money to eat at Nautika instead of tourist traps – Hotel Anita gets it right. That 9.5 rating isn’t an accident. It’s what happens when a place does the basics beautifully and treats guests like humans instead of credit card numbers.

Prachtig verblijf. – Nieuwenhuizen from Netherlands – 6 June 2025 (9/10)
Sandra is heel erg aardig.
Agréable et confortable – Genevieve from Canada – 11 September 2024 (9/10)
What could be improved: Il y a beau un bon dénivelé pour s’y rendre a pied ( autobus disponible si vous aimez mieux attendre)Exceptional – Mate from Croatia – 4 September 2024 (10/10)
Yupeng from China – 2 July 2024 (10/10)
