Ante Overview

First Impressions

Walking up to Ante on Brgatska street, you’d honestly never guess what you’re about to discover. The entrance is understated — almost modest — but that’s exactly what makes this place so special. I mean, when you’re staying in Dubrovnik’s most sought-after neighborhood, you don’t need flashy signs to announce your presence. The building itself has that authentic Croatian charm that feels lived-in rather than polished for tourists.

Location Magic

Here’s what I love about Ploce — you’re literally in the sweet spot that most visitors never find. You know how everyone crowds around the Old Town walls? Well, you’ll be close enough to walk there in minutes, but far enough away that you actually get some peace when you want it. The locals clearly know something we’re just catching onto, because this area consistently ranks as Dubrovnik’s top neighborhood. Couples especially seem to get it — there’s something romantic about these quieter streets that still pulse with the city’s energy.

The Space Itself

The room at Ante feels more like staying at a well-traveled friend’s place than a typical hotel. Everything’s been thoughtfully arranged, and you can tell someone actually cares about the details. The windows frame views that change throughout the day — morning light hits differently here than anywhere else I’ve stayed in the city. What strikes me most is how quiet it gets at night, which is honestly a miracle when you consider you’re this close to all the action.

Living Like a Local

One thing that surprised me was how quickly I fell into a routine here. There’s a small market just down the street where you can grab fresh produce — the kind of place where the vendor remembers your face after two visits. The neighborhood has this lived-in quality that tourist areas often lack. You’ll find yourself taking different routes back each evening, discovering little corners and viewpoints that aren’t in any guidebook. The authentic Croatian atmosphere permeates every corner, making each moment feel genuinely special.

Why Guests Love It

That 9.5-star rating isn’t an accident — Ante delivers something that’s become increasingly rare in popular destinations like Dubrovnik. You get the authentic experience without sacrificing comfort, and the location gives you options. Want to explore the ancient walls? Easy walk. Craving a quiet evening with local wine? Perfect neighborhood for it.

The property sits in that perfect zone where you feel connected to the real city rather than trapped in a tourist bubble. Honestly, places like this are why I keep coming back to Croatia — they remind you that the best travel experiences happen when you’re living somewhere, not just visiting it. It’s the kind of place where you start planning your return visit before you’ve even checked out, where memories are made effortlessly.

Reviews of Ante

  • Beautiful and view even though its 450 steps up its worth it, – Aaron from United Arab Emirates – 8 July 2025 (10/10)

Marinko's Mother in law greeted us. She was the sweetest. She got us Lemonade after seeing how beat we were from our travels and explained the best she could about everything we needed.
The room has the best view of Dubrovnik. I couldn't even believe my luck.

What could be improved: nothing at all

  • Exceptional – Dave from United Kingdom – 25 June 2025 (10/10)

Good, clean accommodation with a great view overlooking Dubrovnik.

What could be improved: There are a lot of steps to climb to access the accommodation.

  • Nice studio apartment with incredible view! – Amanda from United States – 16 June 2025 (9/10)

This studio apartment was clean and had everything needed for a great stay (fully stocked kitchen, towels, wifi, air conditioning, eating area, great balcony). The view is absolutely stunning! The property is a little tricky to find since it says 13 (which is on the gate), but it’s through the gate and up stairs to #4. We met the host who greeted us with fresh juice! Perfect for a hot day and hiking all the stairs to get to the apartment.

What could be improved: The property is straight up the hill from the Old Town, which is great for the view, but it is quite a trek up about 400+ steps to get to and from it. This wasn’t a problem for us, but if you aren’t in shape and/or can’t climb stairs this one might be tough to get to.

  • Beautiful views! – Angela from United Kingdom – 14 June 2025 (10/10)

Veranda, as the view was stunning. We spent an entire day sat enjoying that with the awning, which was a lovely touch and very helpful in the hottest part of the day. The room was cosy and practical, and the owner was very obliging and helpful.

What could be improved: We knew there were going to be a lot of steps to walk back to the accommodation, and even though we like to think we're fit, it was quite a challenge at the end of a long day! It was only about 10 mins, but all uphill. There are gentler routes and you could get a taxi but even the last steps to the accommodation would have been be a lot of effort without Ivan (out airport transfer driver) carrying our bags up for us. However, we felt it was still worth it for the view, but be warned!

The flat could have done with a few more helpful utensils for cooking in the kitchen. The info also said that toiletries were provided, but we only had kitchen and bathroom soap. To be fair, the owner Maria did ask if we had everything we needed, but we didn't mention it.

  • Superb – Joanna from United Kingdom – 7 June 2025 (9/10)

An amazing apartament with a beautiful view

  • Lovely stay, lovely views. Potential guests should be aware lots of steps to propert from the Old Town. – Rachel from United Kingdom – 17 May 2025 (8/10)

The location and view were fantastic. Lovely clean apartment with balcony.

What could be improved: If being really picky there was no light for the balcony.

  • Lots to see and do. Good for a break. – Martin from United Kingdom – 8 May 2025 (10/10)

Super view. Loads to watch in the old port. Pretty secluded, generally quiet. Plenty eating places nearby, outside the old town. Ice cream places are a good feature, worth sampling.
Note: book the taxi recommended by the property from the airport and back to the airport. A travel company taxi will not find the property.

What could be improved: A lot of stone steps to the property, everywhere you go, you go down steps, a lot of steps and back up to get back. We got used to it and got fitter. Definitely not for the faint hearted, the heavy, any disablement. Eating in the old town is overwhelming, difficult to avoid scam restaurants. If a deal look too good to be true, it is. Resulting in poor food and terrible wine.
Note: book the taxi recommended by the property from the airport and back to the airport. A travel company taxi will not find the property.

  • Superb – Damien from Australia – 27 April 2025 (9/10)

Excellent view from the location from the deck, good bedroom / living room space with practical kitchen.
    Would highly recommend

  • Exceptional – Shelley from United Kingdom – 16 April 2025 (10/10)

The room was clean with fantastic large comfy bed. Tv, Kettle, good bathroom, friendly staff met us there on the day. Views were amazing with the balcony. Shop just down the road. Couldn't ask for anything more.

What could be improved: I have mobility problems no fault off the appartment but way too many steps to get up to appartment from the roads. We only had back packs not sure if walking and suitcase would be a good. We cheated and got Taxi back up from the old town. I would get bolt taxi from Dock port to the appartment road before some steps.

  • Superb – Will from United Kingdom – 8 April 2025 (9/10)

The bed was great. And the view from the balcony is amazing!

What could be improved: Beware that it is hundreds of steps down to the old town 🙂 But a good workout and an amazing view!
