The kitchenette was small but functional, which came in handy since there’s a little market just down the street where you can grab fresh bread and local cheese. The staff, well, they’re not overly chatty but they know their stuff. The guy at reception gave me this insider tip about catching the bus to the Old Town from the stop near the Grand Hotel – saves you about 200 kuna compared to taxis, and honestly, the ride along the coast is half the fun. The WiFi actually worked everywhere in the suite (shocking, I know), and they had this little balcony where I’d sit with coffee in the mornings, watching locals head to work while the cruise ship crowds were still sleeping.

Here’s the thing about Lapad that most people don’t realize – it’s where a lot of locals actually hang out. There’s this fantastic little restaurant called Dubrovnik just a few blocks away that serves the best black risotto I’ve had in Croatia, and you won’t find it in any guidebook. Antonio’s sits right in the sweet spot where you can walk to proper neighborhood places but still get to Pile Gate in 20 minutes on the 6 bus. The beach situation is solid too – Lapad Bay has actual sand mixed with those pebbles, and there’s usually space to spread out even in July. I stayed there during shoulder season in May, and honestly, it felt like having a little apartment in a residential neighborhood rather than being stuck in some tourist bubble. The 8.6 rating makes sense – it’s not trying to be the fanciest place in town, but everything works, it’s comfortable, and the location gives you that local feel while keeping you connected to all the stuff you came to see. Just pack some comfortable walking shoes, because you’ll want to explore this neighborhood properly.
