You know what struck me first about Apartman Mama Marija? The address alone tells you everything – you’re right on Nalješkovićeva ulica, which means you’re actually *in* the Old Town, not just claiming to be near it like half the places in Dubrovnik. I mean, when you step outside, you’re literally walking on those polished limestone streets that tourists pay hundreds just to see for a day.

The thing about staying inside the city walls is that it’s both a blessing and something you need to know going in. Yes, you’ll hear the gentle hum of people wandering the streets until maybe 10 or 11 PM – it’s not exactly silent, but honestly, it becomes this sort of comforting background noise. Like living inside a living postcard, if that makes sense. And Mama Marija (I never actually met her, but the name stuck) has managed to create this space that feels authentically Croatian without being kitschy about it. The apartment itself is what I’d call thoughtfully simple – clean lines, local touches, and everything you actually need without the fluff.

Here’s what really matters though: the location spoils you completely. You can stumble to that little bakery on Stradun at 7 AM before the cruise ship crowds arrive, or grab dinner at one of those tiny konobas tucked into the side streets where locals actually eat. The logistics work too – getting your luggage there requires a bit of coordination since cars can’t drive into the Old Town, but they’ve got it figured out with clear instructions. I actually appreciated that it forced me to pack lighter. The 9.7 rating isn’t just inflated tourist enthusiasm either; it’s earned through those small details that matter when you’re living somewhere for more than a night or two. The shower pressure is solid, the Wi-Fi doesn’t cut out when you need it most, and the whole place has this lived-in comfort that makes you feel like you’re borrowing a friend’s well-loved apartment rather than staying in some sterile hotel room. Sure, it’s not luxury in the marble-and-gold sense, but luxury in Dubrovnik is being able to walk to the city walls at sunset without fighting for a taxi, or hearing the morning bells from three different churches while you’re having coffee on stones that have been there for centuries.

  Loved this place near the centre of the old town in a beautiful setting. Its a large apartment with plenty of space and comfort. The bed is great and the whole place was perfect for my stay. The owner, lovely bloke from the town and it was a great welcome with some locals beers etc. Really enjoyed my time.

  Great location. Excellent host, with lots of helpful directions to find it, and always available to answer any questions. Fabulous little duplex apartment with a bit more space than we were expecting. Be prepared to walk up and down a few steps to explore the town and reach the apartment – that's not a complaint, it's just the nature of the Old Town.
