You know what struck me first about Apartment 4 You? The address – Između polača literally means “between the palaces,” and honestly, that’s exactly where you are. I mean, you’re tucked right into this narrow stone alley in Old Town where the walls are so close you can practically touch both sides at once. The building itself is this weathered limestone that’s probably been standing since before your great-grandmother was born, but inside it’s been updated enough that you’re not roughing it.

The thing about staying here is you’re actually living like a local, not just pretending to. When you step out in the morning, you’ll hear the shopkeepers hosing down their storefronts and the delivery guys wheeling their carts over those polished stones – it’s this whole symphony that tourists staying up in Lapad or Babin Kuk never get to experience. Sure, those cart wheels can be a bit noisy around 7 AM, but it’s part of the charm (and honestly, you’ll probably want to get up early anyway to beat the cruise ship crowds). The apartment’s windows face the alley, so you get that authentic Old Town acoustic experience – church bells, seagulls, the occasional late-night reveler finding their way home.

What really makes this place special is how it puts you right in the thick of things without the tourist trap markup. You’re maybe a two-minute walk from Stradun, but you’re on this quiet side street where actual Dubrovnik residents still live above their shops. There’s this little konoba around the corner where the owner – I think his name was Marko – makes the best black risotto I’ve had outside of someone’s grandmother’s kitchen. The bathroom’s compact but functional (you know how these old buildings are), and the kitchen’s got everything you need if you want to grab some pršut and cheese from the morning market instead of paying restaurant prices for every meal. Storage is a bit tight, but you’re in Dubrovnik – you’ll be out exploring most of the time anyway. The Wi-Fi actually works well, which isn’t always a given in these thick stone walls, and the air conditioning was a lifesaver during the August heat wave when we visited.
