Look, I’ll be honest – when I first saw “Apartment Aurora II” on Bana Josipa Jelačića street, I wasn’t expecting much. The name sounds a bit generic, you know? But man, was I wrong. This place is tucked right in the heart of Lapad, and I mean that in the best possible way. You’re literally a five-minute walk from Lapad Bay, where the water’s this incredible turquoise that somehow looks even better at sunset than in all those Instagram photos.

The apartment itself feels like someone’s stylish Croatian aunt decided to rent out her place – and I mean that as a huge compliment. Everything’s clean and modern (they earned that 4-star rating), but there’s this warmth to it that most hotels just can’t fake. The kitchen actually has proper equipment, not those sad hotel mini-fridges that barely keep your wine cold. I spent a morning making coffee and watching locals walk their dogs on the street below, and honestly? That’s when Dubrovnik really clicks – when you’re not rushing between tourist spots but just… existing there for a bit.

What really sold me on this place was the location intelligence. See, most tourists cram themselves into Old Town accommodations, which sounds romantic until you’re trying to drag luggage up those marble steps at 2 PM in July heat. Lapad’s different – it’s where actual Dubrovnik residents live and hang out. There’s this fantastic konoba (that’s local-speak for a traditional restaurant) called Dubrovnik just around the corner that serves the kind of black risotto that’ll ruin you for anywhere else. And here’s the thing nobody tells you: the bus to Old Town runs every 10 minutes during the day, so you get the best of both worlds without the crowds camping outside your window at dawn.

The 8.8 rating makes total sense once you’ve stayed here. The owner – I think his name was Marko – actually responded to my messages like a human being, not some copy-paste customer service bot. When our flight got delayed, he just said “no problem” and left the keys with his neighbor. Try getting that flexibility at a big hotel chain. Plus, and this might sound weird, but the shower pressure is phenomenal. After a day of walking those ancient city walls in the heat, trust me, this matters more than you think.

I should probably mention that Lapad gets pretty quiet after October – which is either perfect or boring, depending on what you’re after. During summer though, there’s this lovely buzz in the evenings when families come out for their evening walks (it’s called “španciranje” and it’s basically the best part of Croatian culture). You’ll hear kids playing football in the small park nearby, which some might find annoying, but I found it oddly comforting. Real life, you know?

Bottom line: if you want to experience Dubrovnik like someone who actually lives there, rather than just photographing it, Apartment Aurora II gets it right. It’s not trying to be fancy – it’s just good at being what it is.

  Really close to the old town, close to the beach, ideal location. Apartment was lovely and clean with everything you need and the beautiful balcony with the stunning view.

  The apartment is pn tye 4 th floor with no elevator,so in case u have luggage, its going to be a difficult choice.

  Great area right above a supermarket and near old town. Very clean and has all facilities needed including a washing machine.

  The view of the apartment is amazing, it is a bonus to have a sea view balcony. The location is convenient, it takes just over 10mins walk to get to the old town. And there are a few nice places to eat/drink nearby at different price ranges. There is a very popular beach close by which we didn't visit, but there are other nice beaches within walking distance.
  
  What could be improved: The toilet/shower is quite small, the AC is only located in the living room

  Location 10 minute walk to old town and longer walk or short bus ride to Lapad and Marina. Just across from nice beach. Great views and balcony. Good facilities. Very helpful who also provides airport transfers. Handy for groceries, bakery and street food with various restaurants within a short walk.
  
  What could be improved: So many stairs which are worth it for the view but would not suit everyone. Road outside can be quite busy during the day.

  1st of all our host Inna was fantastic.. she gave us the most beautiful welcome.. from arranging our pick up at the airport, stopping at a view point for pictures and giving us a mini tour and lovely recommendations for the area. The apartment itself has everything you need with an amazing view.. 😍 one of the best places we have stayed!

  The fabulous view ! The privacy , The location!..easy access to OldTown, Ferry port , Lapad all in walking distance. Bus stops right outside , but I walked ..

  Everything, this place has arguably one of the best views you can ask for. It is still relatively close to the city, but far enough to not be bothered by the party scene.

  I chose this apartment based on the view alone and boy was it worth it!stunning!!
  The apartment also blew me away – spanking clean, modern and new ,extremely comfortable and in a superb location ! You are a 10 min walk to the old town and a 20 min walk to Lapad.a great beach is only 5-10 mins and in view of the apartment. Bars and restaurants around you also.
  Matea was an excellent host- she gave us such a warm greeting and was excellent for giving advice and tips and making bookings for us. She stocked the apartment with more than just the essentials and was always on hand by text if we needed her.
  I can’t wait to return!
  
  What could be improved: There is nothing I didn’t like about the property at all. Just for those who don’t like stairs , it is on the 4th floor and there is no lift. Not a problem for us
