I’ll be honest – when I first walked up to Apartment Blue one on Kovačića street, I wasn’t expecting much from a 3-star place. But you know what? Sometimes the best discoveries come when you’re not trying too hard to be impressed. This little apartment sits in one of those narrow Dubrovnik streets where the stone walls have seen centuries of stories, and there’s something genuinely peaceful about stepping inside after navigating the maze of Old Town.

The location is actually pretty clever – you’re close enough to hear the distant hum of tourists on Stradun during peak season (which, let’s face it, is basically April through October), but far enough up the residential streets that you can actually sleep without earplugs. I mean, finding parking around here is still the usual Dubrovnik nightmare, but once you’re settled in, you start to appreciate how the owner picked this spot. You can walk to the city walls in maybe ten minutes, but when you come back in the evening, you’re climbing into these quieter residential lanes where locals are actually hanging laundry and having normal conversations – not posing for Instagram shots every five seconds.

What really got me was the attention to small details that someone who actually lives here would think about. The apartment has this lived-in quality that feels authentic rather than sterile – you know how some places feel like they were designed by someone who’s never actually stayed in a vacation rental? This isn’t that. The blue accents (hence the name, I assume) aren’t overdone, and honestly, the whole space feels like someone’s grandmother’s place that’s been thoughtfully updated without losing its character. The kitchen actually has proper coffee-making equipment, which… look, if you’re staying anywhere in the Balkans and can’t make decent coffee, you’re missing half the point. There’s also this great little balcony area where you can sit with your morning cup and watch the neighborhood wake up – the stone streets amplify sound in this interesting way where you hear footsteps and conversations echoing off the walls, but it’s somehow soothing rather than intrusive.

The 10 rating makes sense when you consider what you’re getting for the price point. It’s not luxury, but it’s thoughtful and genuine in a way that a lot of the flashier places in Dubrovnik aren’t. Plus, staying here means you’re supporting local ownership rather than some international chain that’ll charge you three times as much for half the personality. The check-in was refreshingly straightforward – no unnecessary upselling or tourist trap recommendations, just practical advice about the best times to visit major sites and where to grab groceries without getting gouged.

  I had a great experience staying at Apartment One.
  The host was very kind, showing me the apartment (although I arrived a bit late at night) and giving me tips about how to navigate the town.
  The apartment was spacious and had everything I needed for my 3-day stay there.
  The location was perfect – close to the ferry port as well as the bus terminal, also a big supermarket nearby.
