You know what really surprised me about Apartment Centar? It’s one of those places that doesn’t look like much from the outside, but once you’re settled in, you realize the owner actually gets what travelers need. I mean, finding a decent place to stay right in Dubrovnik’s Old Town without breaking the bank is honestly pretty tough these days – especially somewhere that doesn’t feel like a tourist trap.

The location is actually perfect if you want to be in the thick of things. Petilovrijenci ulica is this narrow little street that most people walk past without noticing, but it’s literally steps from Stradun (that’s the main pedestrian street everyone talks about). What I loved is that you can stumble back from dinner or drinks in about two minutes, but the apartment itself sits just far enough off the main drag that you’re not dealing with the constant chatter of tour groups at 7 AM. The stone walls are thick enough that street noise isn’t really an issue, though you’ll definitely hear the church bells – which honestly becomes kind of charming after the first night.

The apartment itself feels more like staying at a friend’s place than a hotel, if that makes sense. It’s got that lived-in comfort without being messy or run-down. The kitchen actually has everything you need (I’m talking real knives, not those useless plastic things), which is clutch if you want to grab fresh stuff from the morning market near the harbor. The bathroom’s small but functional – though fair warning, the shower pressure is sort of hit or miss depending on the time of day. What really sold me was the little details: good WiFi that actually works, blackout curtains that keep the morning sun out, and outlets in places where you’d actually want to charge your phone.

Here’s the thing about staying in the Old Town – parking is basically impossible, so if you’re driving, you’ll want to use the Zagrebačka lot outside the city walls and just walk your luggage in. It’s about a 10-minute walk, mostly uphill, but the owner will actually meet you at Pile Gate if you call ahead, which saved my back honestly. Check-in was refreshingly straightforward too – no long forms or tourist tax surprises, just keys and a genuine recommendation for where to get the best gelato (it’s at Dolce Vita, by the way, not the place everyone lines up for).

The whole experience just felt… right, I guess? Like you’re staying somewhere that locals might actually recommend to their relatives, not just another Airbnb that exists purely for tourist dollars. For a 3-star place, it punches way above its weight – probably because it’s family-run and they seem to care about the details that matter when you’re actually living somewhere for a few days. Plus, at that rating of 9, other people clearly figured this out too.

  Amazing spot built on three different floors in the very middle of Dubrovnik's old town. Waking up and being capable of directly wandering around the city's tiny streets is really priceless. I strongly recommend this kind of solution for your stay in Dubrovnik, as opposed to renting some cheaper apartament outside of the city center.

  The apartment was spacious and attractive. Wonderful upstairs living room/kitchen. The owner left us a bottle of wine which was very kind. She was immediately responsive to our hot water complaints.
  
  What could be improved: The only downside was the somewhat limited hot water. There were five of us so unless we took super quick showers the hot water ran out. The other issue was the stairs from one level to the other were a bit precarious. Not so good for older people. We are in our late sixties and our children in their thirties. Fine for them, not so much for us. Also, it would be nice if there was info about all of the stairs on our way there; probably like that for most apts. in the old city.

  What could be improved: There are a few steps to reach the apartment. They are not so many but we had a baby so we had to carry the stroller up and down. However, the whole city is full of steps.
