Hotel Description
Look, I’ll be honest – when I first heard the name “Apartment Charming Arena,” I rolled my eyes a bit. But you know what? This little one-bedroom in Ploče actually lives up to the hype, and that’s coming from someone who’s stayed in way too many Dubrovnik rentals over the years.
The location is what really got me. You’re literally a five-minute walk from the Ploče Gate – I mean, you can practically see the old town walls from the terrace. And speaking of that terrace, this is where the magic happens. I spent my mornings out there with coffee, watching the cruise ships drift into the harbor while the sun hit the Adriatic just right. The sea view isn’t some distant sliver either; it’s proper blue water stretching toward the islands. Evenings are even better – you’ll catch the sunset reflecting off the fortress walls, and honestly, it beats any restaurant view you’ll pay 40 euros for down in the old town.
The apartment itself is pretty straightforward but done well. Clean lines, decent kitchen (though let’s be real, you’re probably eating out most nights anyway), and a bedroom that actually fits a proper bed, not some cramped afterthought. The bathroom’s modern, good water pressure – important details when you’ve been walking those stone streets all day. What I really appreciated was how quiet it stays, even during peak summer. Ploče isn’t where the late-night party crowds end up, so you can actually sleep with the windows open and just hear the waves. Parking was surprisingly painless too – the host sorted that out without the usual Dubrovnik drama of circling narrow streets for an hour.
Here’s the thing about staying in this area that most visitors don’t realize: you’re close enough to walk everywhere that matters, but far enough from Stradun to avoid the cruise ship chaos. I could slip into the old town through Ploče Gate in the morning before the crowds hit, then retreat back to the terrace when things got crazy around noon. The small grocery store on the corner saved me multiple times, and there’s this little konoba about two blocks away that locals actually go to – much better than the tourist traps near the cathedral. The whole setup just works, you know? It’s not trying to be some luxury palace, just a solid base that lets you experience Dubrovnik without feeling like you’re living in a museum gift shop. For the price point and that view, I’d definitely book it again.
