Hotel Description

Look, I’ve stayed in plenty of places around Dubrovnik over the years, and Apartment Denis is honestly one of those finds that makes you feel like you’ve cracked some local code. It’s tucked away on Imotska Street – which, if you know the area, puts you in this perfect sweet spot where you’re close enough to everything but far enough from the cruise ship crowds that descend on the Old Town daily.

The thing about Denis’s place is that it actually feels like someone’s home, not some sterile rental property. I mean, sure, it’s got that 4-star polish you’d expect, but there are these little touches that tell you the owner actually cares about the space. The apartment itself is surprisingly spacious – and I say surprising because let’s be real, most places in Dubrovnik are pretty compact given the real estate situation. You’ve got proper room to spread out, which is clutch if you’re planning to spend more than a weekend. The kitchen is actually functional too, not just some sad kitchenette with a broken coffee maker. I ended up cooking a few meals there because, honestly, eating out every night in Dubrovnik will drain your wallet faster than you’d think.

What really sold me on the location was realizing I could walk to Pile Gate in about 10 minutes without breaking a sweat – even in July heat, which is saying something. But here’s the kicker: you’re also super close to that little bakery on Branitelja Dubrovnika where locals actually go for their morning coffee. None of the guidebooks mention it, but trust me, it’s where you want to grab your pastries before the tourist spots jack up their prices. The neighborhood itself is residential enough that you’ll hear actual life happening – kids playing, neighbors chatting – instead of just rolling suitcases at all hours. Parking can be a bit of a puzzle (like everywhere in Dubrovnik), but Denis was pretty helpful with suggestions, and there’s usually something within a reasonable walk.

The 9.5 rating isn’t just inflated vacation euphoria talking – the place is genuinely well-maintained and thoughtfully set up. Air conditioning that actually works, which you’ll appreciate if you visit between May and September. Good water pressure in the shower, blackout curtains that make morning sleep-ins possible, and – this might sound minor but it’s not – really solid wifi throughout the apartment. I was working remotely for part of my stay, and it never gave me grief during video calls. Denis himself is pretty responsive without being hovering, which is exactly the vibe you want from a host. He’s got that local knowledge thing down – like, he’ll tell you which days to avoid certain areas because of wedding season crowds, or when the best farmers market happens. You know what really impressed me though? The place stayed quiet even during some festival weekend when half the city seemed to be celebrating until 2 AM. Good windows, solid walls – sometimes it’s the practical stuff that makes or breaks a stay.

Great view from the terrace. Denis was super helpful with our cases. Lots of space, clean and comfortable.

What could be improved: Dubrovnik has so many steps… still, good for our knee exercises!

  • Shih-ling from Singapore – 20 April 2025 (8/10)

The host met us at the property and kindly helped us to bring our luggage up the flight of stairs!

What could be improved: Slightly difficult to find since the unit number was not seen from the front of the apartment

  • Ahmad from Belgium – 19 February 2025 (10/10)

Denis (owner) living one flow under – is responsive. He received and guided us to the garage – also helped us with our luggage. Facilities – perfect for my family of five. Beautiful view from the balcony. Location-wise, close in proximity to old town. We moved around by Uber.

What could be improved: Ongoing construction next to the unit (only during the daytime) – if noise is a concern. I had no issue and stayed for 2 days comfortably.

  • Sy from Singapore – 3 January 2025 (10/10)

Helpful and friendly host, good communication. The apartment is tastefully decorated, was very comfortable and fully equipped for a long term stay. the view from the balcony is priceless. There is a supermarket very close to the property. Loved our stay there and will be coming back.

  • Eelin from United Kingdom – 25 October 2024 (10/10)

Denis met us at the airport as pre arrange and took us to Cavtat, he then came back to pick us up. He helped us to bring the luggage back to apartment. The apartment layout was good, the view was fabulous, we had a great time staying in Denis apartment. Denis is very kind to provide a bottle of wine, there was enough kitchen supplies and toiletries. We take Uber to old town and walked back. Uber cost around EUR8, walking took about 35 minutes. Overall we are happy with our stay.

    What could be improved: Nothing.
