Hotel Description

You know what struck me first about Apartment Entre les jardins? The name actually makes sense – it really does sit between gardens, tucked away on this quiet little street called Ulica Između vrta that most tourists never stumble across. I mean, you’re literally a stone’s throw from the Old Town walls, but somehow it feels like you’ve found this peaceful pocket where locals actually live their daily lives.

The building itself is pretty typical for this part of Dubrovnik – that weathered Adriatic stone that looks like it’s been there forever (and probably has). What I loved was how the owner seemed to get that travelers want space to actually spread out after cramming into those narrow Old Town alleys all day. The apartment has this lived-in feel that’s way more comfortable than those sterile hotel rooms you usually get. There’s a proper kitchen where you can store all those Croatian wines you’ll inevitably buy, plus enough room to actually unpack your stuff – honestly, such a relief after bouncing between tiny European hotel rooms. The 7.6 rating feels about right; it’s not going to blow your mind with luxury, but it delivers exactly what you need without any unpleasant surprises.

Here’s the thing about the location that booking sites won’t tell you – yes, you’re close to everything, but you’re also positioned perfectly to avoid the cruise ship crowds that flood the main tourist areas every morning around 10 AM. I’d walk down to Pile Gate in about eight minutes, grab my coffee and pastry before the masses arrived, then retreat back to the apartment during peak chaos hours. The street itself is refreshingly normal – you’ll see neighbors hanging laundry, kids playing, that sort of authentic neighborhood vibe that’s getting harder to find in Dubrovnik these days. Parking can be a bit tricky (well, it’s Croatia, so that’s expected), but there are spots if you’re patient, and honestly, once you’re settled in, you won’t need a car anyway. The only minor downside I noticed was that Croatian families tend to be pretty social in the evenings – lots of animated conversations drifting from nearby balconies – but if you’re the type who goes to bed at 9 PM, maybe pack some earplugs. For everyone else, it’s just part of the charm of staying somewhere that feels genuinely local rather than tourist-sanitized.

Reviews

  • I wish I could live there forever. – Caitengl from United States – 11 May 2025 (9/10)

Beautiful rooms, lots of space, everything was clean and comfortable. Great view, bright and airy. Washing machine was just what we needed.

What could be improved: So many stairs. Not enough hot water. Some sort of shower curtain would have been nice to keep in the heat while showing. I wish they accepted credit cards.

  • Great apartment at the entrance to Pile Gate – Aimee from Croatia – 2 May 2025 (9/10)

Great location, very helpful and friendly staff. We had a great time in the Old Town Dubrovnik

What could be improved: Not wheelchair/stroller accessible due to many stairs

  • Amazing location – Melody from New Zealand – 30 April 2025 (8/10)

Wonderful location. Quiet apartment. Lovely beds. We were met on arrival and provided with information on the apartment and Dubrovnik.

What could be improved: We needed more kitchen utensils. Not many power points for aplliances.

  • Great apartment just steps away from the walls. – Marcin from Canada – 26 October 2024 (9/10)

The location is perfect. The view from the master bedroom is incredible and I loved opening the windows and the shutters and watching the walls of the Old City in the first light.

  • good experience – Ransome from Australia – 11 October 2024 (7/10)

    location size of unit

What could be improved: stairs no good sitting area

  • A wonderful vacation filled with the beauty of God’s creation and kind people! – Diane from Canada – 8 October 2024 (9/10)

    Location

  • Excellent location and cute balcony with a view of the old town. – Gabriella from United Kingdom – 3 September 2024 (9/10)

Excellent location and cute balcony with a view of the old town. Very near Pile gate with easy access to the old town and buses.

What could be improved: Interior is basic but perfectly adequate for a base in Dubrovnik as location is excellent!

  • Superb – Panda from United Kingdom – 28 July 2024 (9/10)

The apartment was very nice, with great location (probably the best area in Dubrovnik).

What could be improved: The only negative thing about this property was the beds, the back pain from sleeping on that bed is no joke. So if you’re particularly sensitive about that, might not be the best. Everything else was perfect.

  • Apart from the terrace issue we would stay again. – Keith from United Kingdom – 18 June 2024 (7/10)

Location is perfect for the old city and the terrace provided a great outlet and extension to the room. Although a sofa bed the topping mattress was extremely comfortable.

What could be improved: The room was smaller than expected. There is limited space for storage and clothes. Unfortunately two separate tenants of the adjacent apartment decided they should have a right of access to the terrace. On reporting to the owner there was no option but to try and deal with it ourselves, which spoilt our stay and caused an agressive presence with the adjacent occupiers. It could have easily been resolved when first reported.

  • Brilliant location and accommodation – Cool4cats from United Kingdom – 2 October 2023 (8/10)

Brilliant location. Balcony. Air con. Local amenities and restraints. Proximity to the main attraction, main bus station, old town and beach

What could be improved: Not a dislike but more a caution – If you plan to visit Dubrovnik, be prepared to climb a lot of steps. Also do not hire a car, there is no private parking and public parking is three figures for a day
