You know what struck me first about Apartment Hitri? The name sounds almost urgent in Croatian – “hitri” means quick or fast – but honestly, this place makes you want to slow down completely. I mean, when you’re sitting on that terrace with your morning coffee, watching the garden come alive below, rushing anywhere feels like a crime against vacation itself.

The apartment sits in Ploče, which – if you’re not familiar with Dubrovnik’s layout – is actually the perfect sweet spot. You’re close enough to the Old Town that you can walk there in about fifteen minutes (maybe twenty if you’re properly caffeinated and taking your time), but far enough away that you’re not dealing with the cruise ship crowds stumbling past your window at 7 AM. The locals in this neighborhood are genuinely friendly too, not the kind of tourist-weary politeness you sometimes get closer to the walls. There’s this little bakery around the corner that doesn’t even have a proper sign, but they make these incredible burek pastries – the owner will probably try to feed you samples if you look even remotely interested.

The apartment itself has that rare quality of feeling both spacious and cozy. The bedroom gets this gorgeous soft light in the mornings, and the terrace… well, I spent way too much time out there. It’s not huge, but it’s perfectly sized for two people to have breakfast or share a bottle of that local Plavac Mali wine in the evenings. The garden view isn’t just green space – you’re looking out at this mix of Mediterranean plants and fruit trees that change throughout the seasons. In late spring, there are these incredible jasmine scents that drift up, especially in the evenings when everything cools down. The kitchen is actually functional too (not always a given in European apartments), with decent counter space and a proper fridge that can handle more than just wine and cheese – though let’s be honest, wine and cheese might be all you need.

Parking was surprisingly straightforward, which anyone who’s driven in Dubrovnik will tell you is basically a minor miracle. The check-in process was refreshingly human – no complicated key codes or impersonal instructions, just real people who clearly care about the place and want you to enjoy it. The Wi-Fi actually works throughout the apartment, the hot water is reliable, and the air conditioning doesn’t sound like a helicopter landing when you turn it on. These things matter when you’re trying to relax.

Look, I’ve stayed in plenty of places in Croatia, and this one just gets the balance right. It’s not trying to be a luxury resort, but it’s thoughtfully set up and genuinely comfortable. The 10-star rating isn’t just optimistic booking site inflation – it reflects what happens when someone puts real attention into creating a space that feels like home, just with better views than most of us have at home. If you’re the type of traveler who appreciates having your own space to decompress after exploring the city, while still being close enough to dive back in whenever you want, this is exactly what you’re looking for.
