I was honestly a bit skeptical when I first pulled up to Apartment Ivano on Šibenska street – it’s tucked into this residential area that doesn’t scream “tourist accommodation.” But that’s actually what ended up being its biggest charm. The building itself is pretty typical for this part of Dubrovnik, maybe a 10-minute walk from the Old Town walls, and I mean, you can’t beat that location without paying resort prices.

Ivano (I assume that’s the owner’s name) has clearly put thought into making this place work for travelers. The apartment I stayed in was clean and functional – not Instagram-perfect, but honestly refreshing after seeing so many over-styled places. What really impressed me was how quiet it was at night, even though you’re still close enough to hear the distant hum of the city. The street parking situation is… well, it’s Croatia in summer, so good luck with that. But there’s a small grocery store literally around the corner on Ante Starčevića, which saved me multiple times when I needed water or snacks before heading out for the day.

The thing that bumped this from “decent stay” to “actually really good” was the local knowledge aspect. There are these little touches – like decent Wi-Fi that actually works (crucial when you’re trying to book ferry tickets to the islands), and the check-in process was refreshingly straightforward. No fancy lobby or concierge, just practical communication about keys and logistics. I stayed here in late September, so it wasn’t peak madness, but the location meant I could duck back easily when the afternoon crowds in the Old Town became too much. The morning light in the apartment was lovely too – eastern exposure, so you get that soft Adriatic glow without the afternoon heat beating down. At a 9.2 rating, I’d say that’s pretty spot-on. It’s not luxury, but it’s exactly what you want in Dubrovnik: a comfortable, well-located base that doesn’t eat your entire travel budget and lets you experience the city like less of a tourist.
