Apartment Katarina sea view

You know what surprised me most about Apartment Katarina? It’s not just the sea view – though honestly, waking up to that stretch of Adriatic blue every morning never gets old. It’s how perfectly positioned this place is on Ulica Ivana Gorana Kovačića. I mean, you’re literally a five-minute walk from the Old Town walls, but far enough away that you don’t hear the cruise ship crowds shuffling past your window at 7 AM.

The apartment itself feels like someone’s actual home, not some sterile hotel room. There’s this lovely terrace where I’d sit with my morning coffee, watching the ferries head out to Lokrum Island. The host, Katarina, actually lives nearby and knows everything – she told me which konoba serves the best black risotto (it’s not the touristy one everyone goes to) and warned me that the steps down to Banje Beach get slippery when it’s windy. Small stuff like that makes such a difference when you’re trying to navigate Dubrovnik’s maze of limestone streets.

What I really appreciated was how quiet it gets in the evenings. During the day, you’ll hear some activity from the street below – locals heading to work, the occasional delivery truck – but once the sun sets and the day-trippers head back to their ships, it’s surprisingly peaceful. The WiFi actually works well (I was working remotely for part of my stay), and there’s decent water pressure, which isn’t always a given in these old Croatian coastal buildings. The kitchen has everything you need if you want to cook, though honestly, with all the incredible seafood restaurants within walking distance, I barely used it except for making coffee. Oh, and parking – this was huge for me since I’d driven down from Zagreb – there’s a spot included, which in Dubrovnik is basically like finding gold. The whole experience felt authentic in a way that big hotels just can’t match, and with that 8.7 rating, I wasn’t the only one who felt that way.
