You know what struck me first about Apartment Kuzman 1? The location is honestly perfect if you want to actually live like a local in Dubrovnik instead of being stuck in the tourist bubble. It’s tucked away on Brgatska ulica in Ploce – which I’ll be honest, I had to ask three people how to pronounce correctly – but once you find it, you’re in this quiet residential pocket that feels worlds away from the crowds hammering the Old Town walls.

The apartment itself is exactly what you’d expect from a solid 3-star place, but here’s the thing – sometimes that’s exactly what you need. The owner, presumably Kuzman (though I never actually met him), has clearly put thought into the details that matter. The Wi-Fi actually works, which honestly can’t be said for every place in this part of Croatia. The kitchen has real glasses, not those plastic things that make your wine taste like disappointment, and there’s enough space to spread out your stuff without living out of a suitcase. I mean, the shower pressure isn’t going to win any awards, but it’s perfectly adequate after a long day of climbing those stone steps around the city.

What really sells this place though is how it sits in the neighborhood. You’re maybe a 10-minute walk from Pile Gate – and I’m talking a leisurely stroll, not a death march – but you’re also right near where actual Dubrovnik residents shop for groceries and grab coffee. There’s this little bakery about two blocks down where the woman behind the counter remembered my order by day three, which honestly made my week. The area gets quiet at night too, which is clutch if you’re trying to recover from all that Croatian wine and need actual sleep. Sure, you might hear the occasional car on the street, but nothing like the party noise that echoes through the Old Town until 2 AM during summer.

The 9.1 rating makes total sense once you stay here – it’s not trying to be fancy, it’s just trying to be genuinely useful. The check-in was smooth (they actually answered their phone, miracle of miracles), and when I couldn’t figure out how to work the air conditioning, someone came by within an hour to show me the trick. It’s these small things that separate a decent stay from a memorable one. I’d definitely book this place again, especially if I was planning to spend more time exploring beyond the main tourist sites or if I was traveling with someone who values having a proper home base over flashy amenities.

  The view was incredible! The apartment was very nicely appointed and the host was very helpful. Easy to cook, easy to do laundry, lovely terrace, comfy beds, very clean.
  
  What could be improved: We knew about this in advance, and it’s why you get the huge view payoff, but the stairs are no joke! It’s easy to go down and rough coming back up, especially when it’s hot.

  Wiev from the balcony must be best in Dubrovnik! It’s very high but you walk in 5-10 minutes to the Old town’s Ploce gate and to the Banje beach. Climbing back the 500 stairs takes 15-20 minutes. Marija is very helpful and apartment is clean.

  There is a fairly steep climb leading to the apartments, which can be easily overcome if you take a taxi, the ride from the fortress walls of the old city will take no more than 5 minutes.
  But the relative severity of the climb is compensated by the dizzying view of the old city from the balcony of the apartment – this spectacle will take your breath away.
  The descent to the old town takes about 10 minutes on foot, and there is a small beach nearby.
  The hostess is very polite and caring. Cold drinks and delicious lemons from our own garden awaited us.
  The apartments are very clean, spacious and cozy.

  Great view of Old Town and Marija was very nice and helpful with information on the things to do in the city. The apartment was nice and clean.
  
  What could be improved: There are a lot of stairs. 100 steps from parking to the apartment and 500 steps to the city below. Be in good shape or get an Uber to shorten the climb.

  Maria was the most helpful, welcoming host I've experienced, she provided info on local attractions, where to visit etc and our welcome wine & beer in the fridge upon arrival was a lovely gesture, well appreciated after the short stair climb. Don't be put off by the stairs though, it's absolutely worth it when you reach the apartment.

  We have stayed in Dubrovnik mid Sep 2023.
  This place has the greatest view in Dubrovnik!!!
  As it is one of the highest streets, we spend most of the time on the balcony when we stayed in.
  Marija (the host) was super prompt on communication, guided us on parking spot and met as on arrival, gave us a tour on the apartment. It was very nice of her to leave us some refreshments in the fridge, thank you!!
  Marija gave us bunch of info of places and restaurants to visit (very helpful).
  Though it's not easy to park a car in Dubrovnik, she guided us very well, but you definitely will enjoy the city more without a car.
  The place had everything we needed, was very comfy and clean.
  Will definitely rent again when we are back in Dubrovnik.
