Hotel Description
Look, I’ve stayed in plenty of places around Dubrovnik, and Apartment Lara Exclusive honestly surprised me – in the best way possible. It’s tucked away on Hrvatskog Crvenog Križa street, which I know sounds intimidating if you don’t speak Croatian, but it’s actually this quiet residential area that feels refreshingly normal after dealing with the tourist chaos down in the Old Town. You’re maybe a 15-minute walk from Pile Gate, but here’s the thing – you get to avoid all that cruise ship madness while still being close enough to duck into the old city whenever you want.
The apartments themselves have this modern, clean aesthetic that doesn’t try too hard to be “authentic Croatian” (thank god, because some places really overdo the rustic thing). What struck me most was how thoughtfully everything was set up – the kitchen actually has proper knives and enough counter space to make breakfast without feeling like you’re performing surgery in a shoebox. The beds are genuinely comfortable, not just hotel-acceptable, and the WiFi actually works consistently, which… well, you know how hit-or-miss that can be in this part of the world. The air conditioning is quiet too, which matters more than you’d think during those sweltering July nights when the limestone walls of the city seem to radiate heat even after sunset.
What really won me over was the neighborhood vibe. You’ve got a decent grocery store (Konzum) literally around the corner, and there’s this little bakery about three blocks down that does incredible burek in the mornings – the kind of local spot you’d never find if you were stuck in some tourist bubble near the port. The area gets genuinely quiet at night, which is rare when you’re this close to a major attraction. I mean, you can still hear the occasional late-night reveler wandering back from Stradun, but it’s not the constant din you get closer to the old walls. Parking can be a bit tricky during peak season – there’s street parking but it fills up fast, so I’d recommend asking about it when you book. The 9.2 rating makes perfect sense to me because while it’s not flashy or over-the-top luxurious, everything just… works. The check-in process was smooth, the place was spotless, and honestly, after spending your days navigating the marble-slick streets and dodging selfie sticks in the Old Town, coming back to this peaceful little corner feels like finding a secret. It’s the kind of place where you can actually relax and maybe cook a simple dinner with ingredients from the local market, rather than feeling like you have to eat out every single meal because your “hotel room” is basically a glorified closet.

It was everything we could ask for when in Dubrovnik. A second coach was missing since we used the one available as a sofa bed but wasn’t a big issue
