You know what struck me first about Apartment Lolo? The location is just… perfect. I mean, you’re right on Bana Josipa Jelačića street in Lapad, which honestly feels like the sweet spot between being close to everything but not drowning in tourist chaos. It’s this lovely residential street where you’ll actually hear Croatian being spoken more than English – always a good sign in my book.

The apartment itself feels like staying at someone’s well-appointed home rather than a sterile hotel room. Everything’s been thoughtfully put together without being fussy about it. The owner clearly gets what travelers actually need – proper coffee facilities (thank god), decent Wi-Fi that doesn’t cut out every five minutes, and windows that actually open wide enough to let in those gorgeous Mediterranean breezes. The building has that classic Dubrovnik stone exterior, but inside it’s been updated in all the right ways. No creaky floors or temperamental plumbing, which I’ve definitely encountered in other older buildings around the city.

What I really love about this spot is how it sits in Lapad. You’re about a 15-minute walk to the main bus station, which makes getting into Old Town stupidly easy – the buses run constantly during the day. But here’s the thing most people don’t realize: Lapad has this fantastic morning market just a few streets over where locals actually shop. I’d grab fresh figs and Croatian cheese there, then sit on the small balcony with my coffee watching the neighborhood wake up. The beach at Lapad Bay is literally a 10-minute stroll downhill, and while it gets busy in peak summer (July-August are absolutely mad), in shoulder seasons it’s this peaceful little haven with crystal-clear water and decent beach bars.

The 9.2 rating makes complete sense once you’ve stayed here. It’s not trying to be fancy – it’s just really, really good at being what it is. The check-in was smooth, the place was spotless, and honestly, everything just worked. The air conditioning actually cools the place down, the shower has proper water pressure, and there’s enough space to spread out your stuff without living out of a suitcase. Small details, but they matter when you’re trying to relax on vacation.

One heads up though – parking can be a bit of a puzzle in this neighborhood, especially in summer. Street parking exists but fills up fast, so I’d ask about options when you book. Also, while the area is quiet at night (perfect for sleeping), you’ll want to stock up on basics before evening since the immediate neighborhood isn’t packed with late-night shops like some other parts of Dubrovnik.

Look, I’ve stayed in my fair share of places around Dubrovnik, and Apartment Lolo just gets it right. It’s that rare find where the location, comfort, and price point all align perfectly. You’re staying somewhere that feels authentically Croatian but with all the modern comforts you actually want. Plus, you’re perfectly positioned to explore both the famous Old Town and the more relaxed local life of Lapad – honestly, that’s the best of both worlds.

  We loved our stay. great location, 10-15 min nice walk to the center, buses are available if you need, bakery, supermarket, restaurants, anything you need is nearby. There is a small nice beach right down the hill. The apartment/kitchen was well equipped and clean, we found everything we needed. The owner is a very nice and helpful lady. Definitely recommended.
