Hotel Description
You know what caught me off guard about Apartment Matea Zlatni Potok? The name makes it sound like some generic rental, but this place is actually a proper gem tucked away in Ploce – and I mean properly tucked away. When I first pulled up to Zlatni potok 5, I’ll be honest, I wasn’t expecting much. The street itself is pretty quiet, which honestly turned out to be one of the best things about staying here. You’re close enough to hear the buzz of Dubrovnik without dealing with those crowds of cruise ship tourists that basically swarm the Old Town every morning around 9 AM.
The apartment itself feels like someone’s stylish Croatian aunt decided to rent out her place – but in the best possible way. Everything’s been thoughtfully put together without feeling sterile or hotel-chain bland. The kitchen actually has proper knives (miracle of miracles), and there’s this little balcony where you can sit with morning coffee and watch the neighborhood wake up. What really impressed me was how quiet it stays at night. I mean, you’re still in a city, but Ploce has this residential vibe that just works if you want to decompress after spending the day climbing those ancient city walls. The owner clearly knows what travelers actually need – good wifi, decent shower pressure, and enough space to spread out your stuff without tripping over suitcases.
Here’s the thing about the location that most people don’t realize until they’re here: you’re actually positioned perfectly between the tourist madness and real Croatian life. Walk ten minutes one way and you’re at Pile Gate dealing with selfie sticks and souvenir shops. Walk ten minutes the other direction and you’ll find these little konobas where locals actually eat – places that don’t even have English menus. The bus connections are solid too, which matters if you want to explore beyond Dubrovnik proper. I took day trips to both Lopud Island and Cavtat, and getting to the ferry terminals was straightforward. Parking can be a bit of a puzzle in this area (like everywhere in Dubrovnik, honestly), but the host gave me specific tips that actually worked. That 9.5 rating isn’t just people being generous – this place delivers on the details that matter when you’re trying to settle in somewhere for more than just a night or two. It’s the kind of spot where you’ll find yourself planning your next Croatian trip before you’ve even checked out.

Great for a relaxing stay away from the hustle of Old Town. – Kendall from United States – 25 June 2025 (9/10)
The balcony was the absolute best part of the apartment. I could sit out there for hours.
What could be improved: Not much at all. I wish there were more instructions. One time we were locked out of the front door, but luckily the day before we found a side entrance.Exceptional – Nicola from United Kingdom – 17 June 2025 (10/10)
Absolutely loved our stay here the apartment is wonderful the views from the terrace are simply stunning you can not believe the view in front to the island & to the right Dubrovnik old town which is amazing at night to sit on the terrace have a glass of wine & look at the city all lit up
The location was perfect a 15 min walk into Dubrovnik but literally 5 mins to the nearest supermarket. In the other direction down lots of steps we found a really beautiful cove with a restaurant loungers & stunning views the sea is crystal clear
As a host Sven was amazing immediate response to any questions picked us up from the airport & was instantly in hand if we needed anything during our stay
Would recommend beautiful apartment location city & the host really cared thank you
What could be improved: There was nothing which we didn’t likeExcellent stay – Ingrid from United Kingdom – 10 June 2025 (9/10)
The view from the terrace was absolutely wonderful! The apartment was very comfortable and had everything that we needed, along with a lovely welcome from Sven who gave useful information about buses and the local shop.
What could be improved: Lots of stairs!Fantastic views and within walking distance of old town. – Rod from United States – 30 September 2024 (10/10)
Apartment has a fantastic balcony overlooking the water and with plenty of room for dining and relaxing outside. Space was very adequate for 4 people and very clean.
What could be improved: We didn’t mind the walk – but it is about 1 mile from old town. Walking to town is all downhill – consider buying a bus pass (line 8) if you don’t want to walk uphill.Dubrovnik in September – Noreen from Ireland – 22 September 2024 (9/10)
A beautiful, old style apartment with lots of character. The view of Lokrum Island and the clear Adriatic sea from the spacious balcony was truly amazing and so peaceful.. We had many lovely walks into Old Town, along the seafront. Sven, the owner, was so accommodating and such a gentleman. He also had a wealth of information about Dubtovnik as he grew up there, fought in the war defending the city and has seen Dubrovnik develop over the years. His apartment is only a 10 to 15 min walk from Banje Beach and Old Town. It was the perfect location for our visit to Dubrovnik and we felt very comfortable and at home there.
What could be improved: Nothing. We would definitely stay there again.Excellent! – Sarah from United Kingdom – 7 September 2024 (10/10)
The view from the balcony was amazing
What could be improved: The steps up to the apartment! Although we were aware when we booked.Fantastic – thank you to our hosts – Susan from United Kingdom – 22 August 2024 (9/10)
Great location – stunning views. Homely and interesting authentic property- beautiful old furniture and pictures. Had everything that we needed. Warm welcome and host available throughout if needed. We were really grateful that they worked hard to do a quick turnaround and get us into the property as early as possible. (Thank you for Sven for picking us up from the airport and then driving us around Dubrovnik to get our bearings before dropping us at the apartment.) Great air conditioning which was very much needed in the heat that we experienced! Property was exactly as seen in photos on the website. Very good sized, well equipped balcony. Good value for money.
What could be improved: We loved it – 9.5/10 🙂 Could have been even better if we had known in advance that it was a festival day when we arrived so supermarkets were closed – so no milk for my husbands cup of tea 🙂 and it did take two people to manage the oven door as it is heavy and we were worried about breaking it! BUT these are minor points in what was a fantastic stay and we would recommend this property to others.Exceptional – Anna from Hungary – 8 August 2024 (10/10)
The view from the appartment's terrace is stunning. You just can't stop admiring it.
The owner is very sympathic, reliable, welcoming and friendly.
The walls and the old town is approximately 15-20 minutes by walk. Beautiful beaches nearby: we found the best on our last day, called beach Đivovići.
We had a wonderful time here.
What could be improved: We loved everything in this place.
Regarding the destation: I am happy we traveled with teenagers, as I wouldn't recommend Dubrovnik with very small children – rocky beaches and many-many (!!) stairs.Excellent – Dorothy from Ireland – 22 June 2024 (9/10)
Sven was so friendly, kind with really good communication.
The collection from the airport made it so easy
The apartment was as full of character, very clean with all facilities
Amazing view to die for!!
What could be improved: We loved everything.
We knew about the steps to the apartment-it was clearly stated on booking.com so not a surprise to us but keep in mind when booking if this is a factorExceptional – Dung from Vietnam – 1 May 2024 (10/10)
The apartment is clean and well equiped. The location is calm and convenient when you just need to walk 1 min to the bus stop (bus no.8) or walk 15-20mins to the Old Town.
The hosts, Mr. Sven and his son are super nice. You can ask him to pick you up at the airport.
I hope to be able to come back someday.
What could be improved: Will find it next time.
