So I stumbled upon Apartment Matic during my last trip to Dubrovnik, and honestly? It’s one of those places that just gets it right without trying too hard. The address says Riječka 13, which might not mean much if you’re not familiar with the area, but it’s actually in this perfect sweet spot – close enough to the Old Town that you can walk there without breaking a sweat, but far enough from the cruise ship crowds that you can actually think straight.

The thing about this place is that it feels like staying at someone’s well-organized cousin’s apartment, you know? Not in a weird way, but in that comfortable “I know where everything is” way. The owner, Matic (yeah, that’s actually his name), has this whole system down to a science. Check-in was smooth – no awkward waiting around in a lobby because, well, there isn’t really a traditional lobby. It’s more like he meets you, shows you around, and suddenly you’re settled. The apartments themselves are clean and functional without being sterile. I mean, you’ve got everything you need: decent Wi-Fi that actually works, a kitchen where you can make more than just instant coffee, and – this is key in Dubrovnik’s summer heat – air conditioning that doesn’t sound like a helicopter landing.

What really sold me on the place was the neighborhood vibe. You’re on this quiet residential street where you’ll hear actual Croatian conversations from the balconies, not just tourist chatter. There’s a small market literally two minutes away where you can grab fresh bread and local cheese without paying Old Town prices. And here’s something I didn’t expect – the parking situation is actually manageable. If you’re driving (which, honestly, you probably shouldn’t in Dubrovnik, but sometimes you end up with a rental car anyway), there are spots nearby, and Matic knows exactly where to direct you. The walk to Stradun takes maybe 15 minutes, and it’s mostly downhill, which is great until you realize you have to walk back up after dinner and wine, but that’s Dubrovnik for you. The 8.8 rating makes total sense once you’re there – it’s not trying to be a luxury resort, but it nails all the basics and then some. You get the independence of an apartment with just enough personal touch to feel looked after. Perfect for couples who want their own space or small groups who don’t want to deal with hotel breakfast schedules and key card drama.
