So I stumbled across Apartment Mihe during my third trip to Dubrovnik, and honestly? It’s one of those finds that makes you want to gatekeep it from the masses. Tucked away on Nikole Tesle street in Lapad – which, let me tell you, is where the locals actually hang out instead of the tourist-packed Old Town – this place feels more like staying at a Croatian friend’s stylish apartment than some sterile hotel room.

The thing about Lapad is that it’s got this perfect sweet spot vibe. You’re maybe a 15-minute bus ride from all the Game of Thrones madness, but you wake up to the sound of actual neighborhood life instead of cruise ship hordes. There’s this fantastic little bakery just around the corner where the owner (I think his name was Marko?) makes these incredible burek pastries that locals queue for around 7 AM. And honestly, the apartment itself just… works. I mean, everything’s been thoughtfully put together – the kitchen actually has proper knives and decent coffee cups, not those flimsy hotel versions that make you question your life choices. The bathroom has this rain shower situation that I’m still thinking about months later, and the bed was firm enough that I didn’t wake up feeling like I’d been wrestling with a marshmallow all night.

What really got me though was how quiet it stays, even during peak summer when Dubrovnik turns into this beautiful chaos. The street gets some local foot traffic, sure, but it’s the kind of gentle evening sounds that actually help you sleep – people walking home from dinner, maybe some distant conversation floating up from the terrace below. The host (Mihe, I assume?) left these incredibly detailed notes about everything from the best time to hit Banje Beach to which konoba serves the freshest fish, and you know what? Every single recommendation was spot-on. There’s even decent parking nearby, which – if you’ve ever tried to navigate a rental car through Dubrovnik’s maze of medieval streets – you’ll appreciate as much as I did. The whole experience just felt effortless in a way that’s pretty rare these days. No fighting with key cards, no hunting down front desk staff at midnight, no wondering if that weird stain on the curtain has always been there. Just a really solid base for exploring one of Europe’s most stunning cities, with enough local character that you feel like you’re actually experiencing Croatia rather than just passing through it.

  Très bel appartement, avec tout l’équipement nécessaire. Propre et bien entretenu par un charmant propriétaire qui nous accueille à notre arrivée pour expliquer et renseigner. Situé à quelques minutes du ferry du Port de Cruz, pratique pour aller sur les îles Mljet ou Korcula. Des commerces et restaurants à deux pas. Et enfin un arrêt de bus à 30 mètres pour rejoindre facilement la vieille ville. Je recommande.
