You know what struck me first about Apartment MM? It’s tucked away on this quiet residential street in Lapad – Ul. Iva Vojnovića – where you actually hear birds in the morning instead of cruise ship horns. I mean, don’t get me wrong, I love Old Town as much as the next person, but honestly, staying there can feel like living inside a snow globe during peak season. Here in Lapad, you get that authentic Croatian neighborhood vibe where locals are walking their dogs and grabbing coffee at the corner café, not posing for Instagram shots every five meters.

The apartment itself is pretty solid for what you’re paying – it’s a 3-star place with a 7 rating, which honestly feels about right. Nothing fancy, but everything works and it’s genuinely clean (I’m looking at you, that sketchy place I stayed in Split last year). The owner clearly cares about the details – fresh linens that actually smell like they’ve been properly dried, not just thrown in a machine, and the bathroom has decent water pressure, which… well, if you’ve traveled around the Balkans, you know that’s not always a given. The kitchen setup is basic but functional, and there’s a little balcony where you can sit with your morning coffee and watch the neighborhood wake up.

What I really appreciated was the location – you’re about a 15-minute walk to Lapad Bay, which has this gorgeous pebble beach that’s way less crowded than Banje Beach near the old walls. The local bus stop is literally two minutes away, and the number 6 bus will get you to Pile Gate (the main entrance to Old Town) in about 10 minutes. Pro tip: grab some groceries at the Konzum supermarket on your way back from town – it’s right on the route and staying in means you can actually save some money instead of eating every meal in the tourist restaurants. The neighborhood has a couple of decent konobas too, especially that little family-run place down toward the water where the fish is actually caught locally, not shipped in frozen. Parking can be a bit tricky during summer months, but there’s usually something available on the side streets if you’re willing to walk an extra block or two.
