You know what really struck me about Apartment Olive? It’s tucked away on this quiet residential street – Ulišta ulica – that most tourists never even notice, but it’s actually genius positioning. I mean, you’re literally a five-minute walk from the Old Town’s Pile Gate, but you escape all that cruise ship chaos that hits the main drag every morning around 9 AM.

The place itself has this understated Croatian charm that I honestly wasn’t expecting from the photos. The owner, Marko, met us at check-in and – this is the kind of detail that matters – he actually drew us a hand-sketched map showing the best route to avoid the crowds when walking to the city walls. The apartment feels authentically local, not like those sterile Airbnbs that could be anywhere in Europe. There’s this gorgeous little terrace where you can actually hear the Adriatic in the distance (well, if you listen carefully and the neighbor’s dog isn’t barking). The kitchen is properly equipped too – I’m talking real coffee maker, not some sad instant situation – which was perfect since Croatian coffee culture is seriously underrated.

What really sold me was the neighborhood vibe. There’s a small konoba called Lokanda Peskarija just down the hill where locals actually eat, and in the evenings you’ll see Croatian families walking their kids along the same stone paths you’re using to get home. The parking situation is… well, let’s be honest, it’s Dubrovnik, so street parking is a bit of a treasure hunt, but Marko hooked us up with a spot that’s technically residents-only (don’t ask me how that works, but it does). The 9.8 rating makes total sense once you’re there – it’s not flashy luxury, but everything just works seamlessly. The AC is whisper-quiet, the shower has proper water pressure, and the Wi-Fi doesn’t crap out every ten minutes like half the places in the old city. Plus, and this is key during summer, the thick stone walls keep things naturally cool even when it’s blazing outside.
