You know what struck me first about Apartment One? The name’s almost laughably understated for what you actually get here. I mean, when you’re standing on that balcony looking out over the Adriatic with Dubrovnik’s old city walls sprawling to your right, “Apartment One” feels like calling the Mona Lisa “that painting.” But honestly, maybe that’s part of the charm – no pretense, just solid comfort in one of the best spots you could ask for.

The location on Ivana Gorana Kovačića is actually perfect if you know Dubrovnik at all. You’re in Lapad, which locals will tell you is where they’d stay if they were tourists (and trust me, that’s high praise). It’s maybe a 15-minute bus ride to the old town, but here’s the thing – you’ll appreciate having this quieter base after spending days weaving through cruise ship crowds on the Stradun. The free parking is legitimately a godsend because, well, anyone who’s driven in Dubrovnik knows that finding a spot near the old city is like winning the lottery. I watched people circle for an hour looking for parking while I just strolled back to my guaranteed space.

The apartment itself has this lived-in quality that I really appreciated – not sterile like some hotels, but clearly well-maintained. The sea view isn’t just marketing speak either; you’re actually waking up to proper blue stretching to the horizon. The kitchen’s functional enough that I made coffee most mornings and watched the ferries heading to the islands (there’s something oddly satisfying about that routine). What really sold me was the little details – decent water pressure in the shower, blackout curtains that actually block light, and honestly, the WiFi worked better than at some five-star places I’ve stayed. The 9.2 rating makes sense when you add it all up.

I’ll be straight with you though – this isn’t luxury in the marble-lobby sense. It’s more like staying at a friend’s really nice place, someone who happens to live in one of the most beautiful cities in the world. The building’s got that Mediterranean apartment vibe, a bit weathered but solid, and you’ll probably hear some street noise during the day (though it dies down at night). But when you’re paying Zagreb hotel prices for a sea view in Dubrovnik, you’re not exactly complaining. Plus, there’s a decent konoba just down the street where the locals eat – always a good sign.
