Hotel Description

You know what caught me off guard about Apartment Ostrea? The street it’s on – Ulica hrvatskog crvenog križa – sounds intimidating when you’re trying to find it, but honestly, it’s this quiet residential stretch that feels worlds away from the tourist chaos, yet you’re still just a pleasant walk from the Old Town walls. I mean, when you’re staying in Dubrovnik, you want that sweet spot where you can actually sleep at night without drunk cruise passengers stumbling past your window at 2 AM.

The apartment itself has that rare thing where the photos actually undersell the place. It’s got these beautiful stone details that you don’t really notice until you’re settling in with your morning coffee, and the kitchen – well, it’s actually functional, which is saying something for Croatian rentals. The hosts clearly get that travelers want space to breathe and maybe cook a meal instead of paying €25 for mediocre pasta in Stradun every night. What really impressed me was how they’ve managed to keep the authentic Croatian character without making you feel like you’re staying in someone’s grandmother’s house (though honestly, Croatian grandmothers have excellent taste). The WiFi actually works throughout the entire space, the air conditioning doesn’t sound like a jet engine, and there’s proper water pressure – these might seem like small things, but try finding all three in one place during peak summer season.

The location is genuinely smart if you know Dubrovnik at all. You’re close enough to walk to Pile Gate without working up a sweat, but far enough from the main tourist arteries that you’ll hear birds in the morning instead of tour guides with megaphones. There’s a decent konoba about three minutes away where locals actually eat, and you can grab groceries at the Konzum without fighting through crowds of day-trippers. Parking can be a bit of a puzzle in this area – like most of Dubrovnik, really – but the hosts give you proper directions that actually work, not just “park somewhere nearby.” The 9.7 rating makes sense when you stay here; it’s not trying to be a luxury resort, but everything just works the way it should, and the little touches show someone actually cares about the guest experience rather than just collecting booking fees.

    Apartment was spacious, quiet and clean, well appointed with good AC. Two bedrooms and sofa bed ideal for family of four. Convenient location to port area and easy transit.

    Everything is perfect. Spacious 2-bedroom apartment with complete facilities and pantry supplies. Very clean. Bus stop to Old Town is just down the building. Going back is a short walk away from the bus stop at the opposite road.

    The apartment was wonderful. Well appointed, exceptionally clean. Good shower and the beds were very comfortable indeed. Everything you could need and conveniently located 10 mins bus ride from Old Town (bus stop right outside the apartment).

    What could be improved: We loved everything. If we were being picky, a couple of decent knives for preparing food and maybe a bedside lamp.
