Look, I’ve stayed in my fair share of Dubrovnik accommodations, and Apartment Simply The Best – despite that slightly over-the-top name – actually lives up to the hype. When I first walked up to Dubravkina 7, honestly, I wasn’t expecting much from the street view. But once you’re inside, you get why this place has a 9.4 rating.

The apartment sits in this perfect sweet spot where you’re close enough to hear the Old Town’s morning bustle (you know, that lovely sound of delivery trucks navigating those narrow streets at 6 AM), but far enough away that you can actually sleep at night. I mean, anyone who’s tried to get rest near Stradun during summer knows what I’m talking about. The owners clearly know their stuff – there’s proper blackout curtains, which is something you don’t realize you need until you’re trying to sleep through those ridiculously bright Croatian summer mornings. The air conditioning actually works too, and believe me, that’s not a given in a lot of these older buildings.

What really got me though was the attention to detail. The kitchen isn’t just some afterthought with a mini-fridge and hot plate – it’s actually equipped for cooking real meals. There’s a proper coffee machine (not just instant, thank god), and they stock it with decent local coffee beans. The bathroom has one of those rainfall showers that actually has good water pressure, which… well, if you’ve traveled around this region, you know that’s basically winning the lottery. The whole place feels like someone’s well-loved home rather than a sterile rental unit.

Parking can be a bit of a dance – there’s street parking nearby, but during peak season you might find yourself walking a few blocks. The walk to the Old Town takes about 15 minutes if you’re moving at a decent pace, maybe 20 if you’re stopping to take photos (which you will be). Pro tip: there’s a small konoba called Dubrava just around the corner that serves incredible seafood risotto – the kind of place where locals actually eat, not just tourists. The hosts gave me a hand-drawn map with little notes about where to find the best burek in the morning and which grocery store has the freshest produce.

Honestly, for a 4-star place, it punches above its weight. The Wi-Fi is solid if you need to work, the beds are comfortable enough that I didn’t wake up feeling like I’d been wrestling with a medieval torture device, and there’s something genuinely welcoming about the whole setup. It’s the kind of place where you can imagine settling in for a week, not just crashing for a night between tours. You’re paying for location and quality here, sure, but you’re also paying for someone who clearly gives a damn about your experience – and in a city that can sometimes feel like it’s just processing tourists, that actually means something.

  A lovely outdoor balcony with amazing views over Lapad. The storage at the apartment was very good for a party of 6 and the host provided us with basic essentials to facilitate cleaning.
  
  What could be improved: The downside to our amazing views were the amount of steps to the apartment but Ubers were easy to book if not up to the climb. A small point but maybe a few more drinking glasses for when we were relaxing on the balcony!

  Host very friendly. Stunning views from the balcony. Comfy beds with loads of space in the rooms. Close to lots of restaurants in the Lapad area. Small shop close.
  
  What could be improved: As with all of Dubrovnik, a lot of steps/ hills to reach the property which is out of its control. Just need good shoes for walking 🙂

  Very comfortable apartment with the best view ever. It was a real pleasure to enjoy the sunset on the apartment's terrace. Easy access to the beach, restaurants, bus stop near-by to Dubrovnik city center, supermarket also very close. The apartment had fully equipped kitchen, the aircon worked fine etc. Perfect for a family holiday!
