Apartment Talir
So I stumbled across Apartment Talir during my third trip to Dubrovnik, and honestly?
So I stumbled across Apartment Talir during my third trip to Dubrovnik, and honestly? I wish I’d found it sooner. It’s tucked away on Ulica Ilije Sarake – which sounds intimidating but is actually just a quiet stone street that feels like stepping back in time. You know what I mean when you walk through those Old Town walls and suddenly the modern world just… disappears? That’s exactly where this place sits.
The thing about staying inside the Old Town walls is that most places are either tourist traps or they’re so small you feel like you’re sleeping in a closet. But Talir actually gives you room to breathe. The apartments have this perfect balance – old stone walls that make you feel like you’re living in medieval times, but with modern touches that actually work (I’m looking at you, reliable Wi-Fi and proper shower pressure). The owner clearly gets that travelers want atmosphere without sacrificing comfort. I mean, there’s something magical about having your morning coffee while looking out at centuries-old architecture, but you still want your phone to charge, right?
What really sets this place apart is the location – and I don’t mean that in the generic “convenient location” way every hotel claims. From your door, it’s maybe a two-minute walk to the main Stradun street where all the action happens, but you’re far enough off the beaten path that you don’t hear the cruise ship crowds at 7 AM. Trust me on this one – I’ve stayed closer to the main drag before and regretted it. The side streets in this area are where locals still hang their laundry and chat with neighbors, so you get that authentic feel without being completely isolated from restaurants and shops. Plus, if you’re planning to walk the city walls (which, honestly, you have to), you’re basically starting from your front door.
The practical stuff matters too – check-in was refreshingly straightforward, no hovering around a tiny reception desk with a bunch of other tourists. Parking is… well, it’s Old Town Dubrovnik, so forget about parking anywhere nearby. But the taxi drop-off spot is close enough that you won’t be dragging your luggage over cobblestones for twenty minutes. One small thing that impressed me: the soundproofing is surprisingly good for such an old building. Even during summer when the streets can get lively in the evenings, I slept well.
Look, Dubrovnik can feel overwhelming with all the Game of Thrones tourism and cruise ships, but staying at Talir gives you this insider feeling – like you’re actually living in the city rather than just visiting it. When you wake up early and step outside before the day-trippers arrive, you’ll understand why this place has such a high rating. It’s not trying to be a fancy hotel; it’s just giving you a genuine way to experience one of Europe’s most beautiful cities. And honestly, after bouncing around different accommodations over the years, that’s exactly what I was looking for.

What Our Guests Say
