When I first arrived at Apartment Vedrana, I’ll be honest — I wasn’t expecting much from what looked like a simple residential building in Dubrovnik’s Ploče neighborhood. But you know what? Sometimes the best places are the ones that don’t try too hard to impress you from the outside. This apartment sits quietly on Zlatni Potok street, and while it might not have star ratings or fancy lobbies, it’s got something better — that authentic Croatian hospitality that makes you feel like you’re staying with family rather than just booking another tourist accommodation.
Here’s what I love about this spot — you’re actually in one of Dubrovnik’s most coveted areas without paying Old Town prices. Ploče is where locals go when they want to escape the cruise ship crowds, but you’re still just a pleasant walk from all the main attractions. I mean, you can reach the city walls in about ten minutes, but when you come back in the evening, you’re in this peaceful residential area where you can actually hear yourself think. The location score of 8.1 makes total sense once you experience it — it’s that sweet spot between accessibility and tranquility.
Vedrana (the owner) has created something really thoughtful here. The space feels lived-in but carefully maintained — you know, like staying in someone’s well-loved home rather than a sterile hotel room. What struck me most was how everything just works without being flashy. The kitchen has everything you actually need (not just the basics), and honestly, after days of restaurant meals, being able to make coffee exactly how you like it in the morning feels like a small luxury. The whole setup is perfect for couples — which explains why so many pairs end up rating this place so highly.
Walking around Ploče in the mornings became one of my favorite parts of staying here. There’s this little bakery about three minutes away where locals grab their morning bread, and a small market where you can pick up fresh produce if you want to cook. It’s not touristy at all — you’re just living like a temporary resident of Dubrovnik. The residential streets are quiet enough that you can sleep with windows open (something you definitely can’t do in the Old Town), but you’re close enough to everything that matters.
That 9.1 rating isn’t an accident — this place delivers on the things that actually matter when you’re traveling. You get space to spread out, a proper kitchen for those times when you don’t want to eat out, and a location that feels authentically Croatian while keeping you connected to all the sights. Couples especially seem to appreciate having their own little retreat after busy days exploring. It’s not trying to be something it’s not, and that’s exactly why it works so well. Sometimes the best travel experiences come from places that just let you live normally in an extraordinary city.
