Look, I’ll be honest – when I first pulled up to Apartment Ventula on Sunčana ulica, I wasn’t expecting much from a 3-star place. But you know what? Sometimes the best discoveries are the ones that surprise you. This little apartment hotel sits in Ploce, which is actually this perfect sweet spot about 10 minutes from Dubrovnik’s Old Town walls. You’re close enough to walk to all the action (and I mean actually walk, not that “walking distance” nonsense where you need hiking boots), but far enough that you won’t hear drunk tourists singing at 2 AM.

The apartments themselves are… well, they’re exactly what you’d want if you’re planning to do more than just crash after sightseeing. I mean, there’s a proper kitchenette where you can actually cook – and honestly, after paying Old Town restaurant prices for a few meals, you’ll appreciate being able to grab fresh stuff from the local market. The owner, this lovely Croatian woman whose name I’m definitely butchering in my head, gave me the rundown on where to shop and which bakery has the best burek (spoiler: it’s the one that looks like someone’s grandmother runs it). The whole place has this lived-in feeling that’s way more comfortable than those sterile hotel rooms where everything’s bolted down. Sure, the WiFi gets a bit spotty during peak hours, and the shower pressure isn’t going to win any awards, but the beds are actually comfortable and the air conditioning works – which, trust me, matters in Croatian summers.

What really sold me on this place was the neighborhood vibe. Sunčana ulica translates to “Sunny Street,” and it lives up to the name – you get this gorgeous morning light streaming in, and there’s this quiet residential feel where you can hear the locals going about their day. There’s a small grocery store literally around the corner, and the bus stop that connects you to everywhere else in Dubrovnik is maybe a 3-minute walk. The whole area feels authentically Croatian, not like some tourist bubble. I actually ended up extending my stay an extra two nights because it felt more like having a temporary home base than just another hotel room. For the price point and that 8.7 rating, it makes total sense – you’re getting genuine local hospitality without the premium you’d pay for staying inside the ancient city walls.

  Location to the old town. Beautiful view from the windows.
  
  What could be improved: Communication with the management agent and owner was difficult. Was told someone would meet us there but after no responses to my messages, end up calling the agent for entry code. Wi-Fi did not work and sent messages to the owner but got no response. End up calling the agent again who contacted the owner, who then called me with another suggestion that did not work. Owner did get Wi-Fi from neighbor last few hours of our stay.

  Great location near the old town and beach. The apartment is large, with separate dining and lounge areas and 2 big bedrooms and 2 bathrooms. The apartment feels old but it was clean and well stocked. Great views from the apartment. You can’t see the apartment from the street but the host did give instructions on how to find it (unfortunately we forgot we had them so did struggle to find it)
  
  What could be improved: We booked this apartment specifically as it had a washing machine only to find it was broken when we arrived, so we were not happy. To be fair, the host did leave us money to go to the laundromat, but it was an inconvenience we hadn’t planned on. There are a lot of stairs to descend to get to the apartment, not so easy to climb up or down with luggage in 31 degree heat. (Don’t think you can escape the stairs in Dubrovnik)

  Magnificent view from the appartment, near beaches and the Old Town. Very quiet and peaceful area. Almost complete equipment in the appartment, comfortble beds, lots of space inside.
  
  What could be improved: Lack of dishwaher. Acces to the appartment by lots of stairs only, but this is specific for all buildings in this part of the city.

  What could be improved: This has nothing to do with the property but don´t think of bringing a (rental) car into Dubrovnik, there is simply no parking available anywhere. I ended up returning the rental car to the airport 2 days before the flight back.

  Me and my family are in love with this property and the location, everything was so clean and the host was there to handle the keys and explain everything about the city, the apartment, etc, and prepared everything for a nice and comfortable stay. I was able to see how they really care about keeping the property in a good way for the guests well being. It was really amazing staying in apartment Ventula. And the plus: the view is totally amazing!

  This apartment was in a great location and had fantastic views over looking the old town from each of the bedrooms. It was about a 10 minute walk to get into the old town. You do have to climb up stairs to get to the apartment, as mentioned in other reviews, but this is pretty common when staying within Dubrovnik old town area. We found the stairs manageable, especially when you see the view you get from the top. The apartment was so clean and welcoming, we could have stayed there for much longer. Even with 6 people in the apartment it was still spacious! Having two bathrooms was a treat. Each bedroom also had their own air conditioner. Nikol was a great host and assisted with anything that we needed. Would definitely stay here again.

  Everything about this apartment was perfect! The ocean & old town views were incredible, plus every detail was covered. There was even laundry detergent for the washer, which was so helpful. The location is amazing because it’s a short walk to Banje Beach & Old Town, just be prepared for lots of steps (totally worth it).
