Hotel Description

You know what caught me off guard about this place? I was expecting just another Airbnb with a decent view, but honestly, stepping onto that terrace was like getting punched in the face with pure Adriatic beauty. The apartment sits up on Gornji Kono – which, if you’ve wandered around Dubrovnik’s upper residential streets, you’ll know is this quiet little pocket where actual locals live, not just tourist traps.

The view is… well, it’s the kind of thing that makes you forget you’re holding a coffee cup until it goes cold in your hands. You’re looking straight out over the old town’s terracotta rooftops, and I mean you can actually see people walking the city walls below – tiny figures tracing those ancient stones while you’re up here in your pajamas. The morning light hits the limestone just right, and in the evening, when the day-trippers have cleared out and the cruise ships have sailed off, you get this golden hour that photographers would probably pay serious money for. The apartment itself is pretty spot-on for what you’d want after a day of climbing those steep cobblestone streets (your calves will thank you for not staying down in the old town, trust me). It’s got that clean, modern Croatian apartment vibe – nothing fancy, but everything works and it’s actually comfortable, not just Instagram-pretty.

Here’s the thing about the location that booking sites don’t tell you: you’re about a 10-minute walk from Pile Gate, which sounds like nothing until you realize you’re walking downhill to get there and uphill coming back. After a long day exploring Stradun or hiking up to Fort Lovrijenac, that little climb feels real. But honestly? It’s worth it for the peace and quiet. Down in the old town, you’ve got street musicians and restaurant hawkers until late, but up here on Gornji Kono, you actually get to hear the sea and maybe some neighborhood cats having their evening drama. The host was pretty straightforward during check-in – no fuss, just handed over the keys and gave me the WiFi password. Parking’s street parking, which in Dubrovnik means you’ll be doing a bit of hunting, but that’s just how it is unless you want to pay hotel prices for a garage spot. I stayed here in late September, which turned out to be perfect timing – still warm enough for morning coffee on the terrace, but past the peak summer chaos when every viewpoint in the city is packed with tour groups. The whole experience just felt… authentic, I guess? Like you’re actually staying in Dubrovnik, not just visiting it.

Reviews

  • Hannah from United Kingdom – 1 January 2025 (10/10)

This property was perfectly situated in Dubrovnik. Fantastic views, great hosts, beautifully presented.

What could be improved: Nothing everything was perfect.

  • Danny from Australia – 28 October 2024 (9/10)

The million-dollar view from the balcony. The photos are accurate. The hosts are incredible kind and willing to assist at any time. The hosts live in the property below the unit which is very helpful. The apartment is set into a hill near the top which has the highway running above so it is easy to be dropped at the top if in a taxi. From there the host assisted us with our bags via a flying fox pully system so we didn't have to carry them down the stairs. This is the best method as if you try to access the apartment from the bottom of the hill there are hundreds of steep stairs to climb.
The unit itself is like visiting your grandma's house and not really our style, but still enjoyable.

What could be improved: The stair access. We are reasonably fit and active and planned our days around only doing the stairs once each day. There is no other way to access the old town unless you get a taxi every time from the top of the hill.

  • Artūras from Lithuania – 15 September 2024 (10/10)

Hosts, the view, plenty of space.

What could be improved: Difficult to park, hard walk to the property from Old town, but we used Uber. Cheap and fast this way.

  • David from United Kingdom – 13 September 2024 (10/10)

The appartment is spacious and well appointed. The view is spectacular (better than the photos would suggest!). Yes, it's a work out climbing the stairs to reach it but a balcony awaits. Hosts very attentive and some nice homely touches.

What could be improved: Nothing to report!

  • Sarah from Australia – 3 September 2024 (10/10)

The most amazing view, and such hospitable hosts.

  • Przemysław from Poland – 18 August 2024 (10/10)

Wonderful hosts! They helped us find a parking space, get to the apartment and gave us very useful information about Dubrovnik.
The apartment is wonderful. The apartment has probably the most amazing view of the Old Town (be warned – to enjoy the view you have to climb some stairs…). But that view…

  • Vicky from United Kingdom – 27 July 2024 (10/10)

The view! It is truly outstanding. Sitting on the balcony each morning and at the end of the day is magical.
The owners are the kindest couple you can meet. We were greeted at the top of the bank and our bags taken down the bank on a wonderful pulley system. Waiting in the apartment was some fresh lemonade and small home baked biscuits.
Yes there are MANY steps to climb back to your apartment, however it is really worth it.

What could be improved: We loved it all

  • Kate from United Kingdom – 23 July 2024 (10/10)

Niko was an amazing host and very helpful.
The apartment is HUGE and has amazing views.
Convenient for shops and the old town, although does need climbing a lot of steps but is fine.

What could be improved: The only small improvement would be if there are air con in the bedrooms as well as the living room as it was very hot when we were there – but we had a fan instead.

  • Jamiel from United States – 20 June 2024 (10/10)

Hospitality- they make you feel like you're staying with family. Hosts felt like a great uncle giving us advice, recommendations for dinner, and booking our departure taxi. His wife welcomed us with baked goods (rolled pancakes with jam and chocolate wafers).

Apartment – is huge with 3 full bedrooms and 2 bathrooms, Kitchen- full size with everything you need to cook every meal, INCREDIBLE view of Dubrovnik from the balcony and two bedrooms.

Warning- the incredible view comes with a hike of stairs. It is not mobility accessible.

What could be improved: Air conditioning is only in the living room but that's it. There's nothing wrong with this place and we can't wait to come back and stay again!

  • Janice from Canada – 17 June 2024 (10/10)

amazing views, spacious rooms, 2 bathrooms

What could be improved: climbing so many stairs, a little confusing to find, but good exercise
