Look, I’ll be honest – when I first saw “Apartments Dub” on the booking site, I wasn’t expecting much. The name’s pretty no-frills, you know? But this one-bedroom spot in Lapad actually surprised me in the best way possible. It’s tucked away in this quiet residential area that feels authentically Croatian, not like those touristy zones where everyone’s speaking English and selling overpriced postcards.

The apartment itself is clean and functional – nothing fancy, but everything works, which honestly matters more than marble countertops when you’re trying to figure out how to work the coffee machine at 7 AM. The bedroom’s got decent blackout curtains (crucial if you’re jet-lagged), and the kitchen actually has real plates and glasses, not those flimsy things some places give you. I mean, you can tell someone put thought into setting this up for actual humans, not just passing-through tourists. The WiFi’s solid too, which saved me when I needed to figure out bus schedules to Old Town.

Speaking of getting around – and this is where staying in Lapad really shines – you’re about a 15-minute bus ride from Dubrovnik’s city walls, but you’re also walking distance to some genuinely good local spots. There’s this little bakery about three blocks away where I grabbed pastries most mornings (way better than hotel breakfast buffets, trust me), and the Lapad beach is close enough that you can actually hear the waves if you open the windows at night. It’s not the dramatic cliff-side views you see in all the Instagram photos, but it’s peaceful in a way that lets you sleep properly. The buses run regularly during the day, though they can get packed during peak season – July and August are honestly a bit crazy, so if you can swing spring or early fall, you’ll thank yourself. Parking’s not terrible around here either, which is saying something for anywhere near Dubrovnik. The check-in was straightforward – met the owner at the apartment, got the keys, done. No fancy lobby or concierge, but sometimes that’s exactly what you want when you just need a clean, comfortable base to explore from.
