Hotel Description

You know what struck me first about Apartments Espana 2? The address – Ulica za Rokom – literally means “the street behind the rock,” and honestly, that tells you everything about why this place works so well. You’re tucked away on this quiet cobblestone lane that most tourists never find, but you’re still a two-minute walk from Stradun, Dubrovnik’s main drag. I mean, you can hear the buzz of the Old Town during the day, but come evening when the cruise ship crowds head back to their boats, it’s surprisingly peaceful.

The building itself has that weathered Dalmatian stone look that actually means something here – not like those fake-rustic places you see elsewhere. Each apartment feels properly lived-in rather than sterile hotel-room clean, if that makes sense. The owners clearly know their stuff because the air conditioning actually works (crucial during those sweltering July afternoons), and they’ve got proper blackout shutters, not those flimsy curtains that let in every bit of morning light. What really got me was the attention to small details – decent WiFi that doesn’t cut out every ten minutes, kitchenettes with real coffee makers, and bathrooms with water pressure that won’t leave you standing there forever rinsing shampoo out of your hair.

The location thing is honestly hard to overstate. You’re maybe fifty steps from Onofrio’s Fountain, which sounds touristy but is actually where locals meet before heading out for drinks. There’s this tiny bakery on the corner of Poljana Paska Miličevića – the street that connects to yours – where you can grab pastries that are still warm at 7 AM, before the Old Town gets crazy. And parking… well, nobody has great parking in Dubrovnik’s Old Town because cars literally can’t fit through the gates, but the public garage at Zagrebačka is about as close as you’re going to get, maybe a five-minute walk with your luggage. The whole setup just feels right – like you’re staying in someone’s well-kept family place rather than some corporate hotel chain. Sure, you might hear church bells at dawn (it’s Croatia, there are churches everywhere), and the stone floors can be a bit cold on bare feet, but that 9.2 rating isn’t just numbers on a screen. It’s the kind of place where you actually want to hang out in your room between wandering the city walls and hunting down the best konoba for dinner.

    Wonderful apartment with a lot of natural light, cute kitchen and great bedroom. There was couple of authentic windows, giving a charming view on the old church and old city from the second floor. The kitchen was functional, as well as nice shower in the bathroom. Location of the building is fantastic, in the middle of old town! Ideal for couples.
    Building is across the city movie theatre, and a restaurant, but nothing too crazy. Overall a very pleasant stay!

    Ideal location in the hub of the Old Town and everything you need for a short stay is provided. Although it’s a couple of flights of stairs up to the apartment you don’t have to go up steps to the property so it fairly easy if you’ve been enjoying the the fine wine and cocktails before you get back there!

    What could be improved: Honestly nothing! It would be nice to have a view but I don’t think many places do in the old town given the nature of the buildings

    Location is fantastic, owner is extremely helpful and communicates quickly and clearly. Great setup for exploring Dubrovnik and the vicinity!

    What could be improved: The door frame for the washing machine closet are coming out of the wall when you open the doors, a little unnerving.

    Location was very close to the Pile Gate, that means that carrying luggage was not a big hassle (as cars don't get into the Old Town). Place was very nice, with washing machine and kitchen accesories ready for use if needed.

    Superb apartment in a quiet corner of Dubrovnik Old Town close the Pile Gate. The apartment is spacious, well equipped with a very comfortable bed and excellent en-suite facilities. The shower is excellent. Overall, good value for money in an excellent location.
