You know what? I wasn’t expecting much from Apartments Lile 1 when I first booked it – the name’s pretty basic, honestly – but this place totally surprised me. It’s tucked away on Petra Hektorovića street in Lapad, which is actually perfect because you’re close enough to everything but far enough from the tourist chaos that swallows Old Town during peak season. The building itself has that clean, modern apartment vibe rather than trying to be some fancy hotel, and I mean that in the best way possible. When you walk in, it just feels… normal? Like you could actually live there for a week without going crazy.

The location is honestly the real winner here. Lapad peninsula is where a lot of locals hang out, so you’ll find yourself grabbing coffee next to people who actually live in Dubrovnik rather than just Instagram-ing it. There’s this great little bakery about a five-minute walk away that does these incredible burek pastries – I probably went there every morning because, well, why wouldn’t you? The beach at Lapad Bay is maybe a ten-minute stroll, and it’s way less crowded than the rocky spots closer to the walls. You can actually spread out a towel without elbowing someone’s kid. The bus stop that takes you into Old Town is super close too, though honestly, the walk isn’t bad if you don’t mind a bit of uphill on the way back.

What really got me was how quiet it stays at night. I’d stayed in the old city before and barely slept because of all the late-night wandering and bar noise echoing off those stone walls. Here, you might hear some light street activity, but it’s more like… normal neighborhood sounds. The apartment itself was spotless – like, genuinely clean, not just “hotel clean” where they’ve sprayed air freshener over questionable carpet. The kitchen actually had proper utensils and plates, which sounds basic but you’d be amazed how many places give you plastic everything and expect you to be grateful. I ended up cooking a few meals because there’s a decent grocery store nearby, and after eating out for days, sometimes you just want to make pasta and watch Croatian TV (even if you don’t understand a word). The WiFi was solid, the air conditioning worked without sounding like a helicopter, and the shower had actual water pressure. Small things, but they matter when you’re trying to rinse off a day of exploring in 30-degree heat. The 9.2 rating makes total sense once you’re there – it’s not trying to be luxury, it’s just really good at being exactly what it is.
