You know what struck me first about Apartments Martha? The moment I walked up to the building on Ludmila Rogovskog, I could actually hear the Adriatic lapping against the shore – and I mean really hear it, not just catch glimpses of blue between other hotels. The whole Lapad peninsula has this relaxed, residential vibe that honestly feels worlds away from the tourist chaos of Old Town, even though you’re only a quick bus ride (or pleasant 20-minute walk along the coastal path) from all those medieval walls everyone comes to see.

Martha – and yes, there’s actually a Martha who runs this place with the kind of attention to detail that makes you wonder why more places don’t operate this way – has created something pretty special here. The apartments themselves are what I’d call “thoughtfully modern” without being sterile. Mine had this little balcony that caught the morning sun perfectly, and the kitchen was stocked with everything you’d actually need, not just the bare minimum. What really got me though was how quiet it stays at night. I mean, you’re close enough to hear the gentle sounds of the neighborhood – someone coming home late, a dog barking briefly – but none of that jarring hotel-corridor noise or paper-thin walls you usually deal with.

The location thing is interesting because it’s not immediately obvious why Lapad works so well until you’ve been there a few days. Sure, there’s that gorgeous pebble beach literally a two-minute walk away (locals call it Lapad Beach, and it’s where Dubrovnik families actually go to swim), but what I loved was having that little Konzum grocery store around the corner and a handful of family-run restaurants where you can eat without checking if your wallet’s still breathing afterward. The bus stop is right there when you want to head into the city center, but honestly? Some evenings I’d just grab a bottle of wine and sit on the small terrace, watching the sunset paint everything gold over the water. The 9.5 rating makes perfect sense once you realize this isn’t trying to be a flashy resort – it’s just doing everything right in a way that feels effortless. Check-in was smooth, Martha remembered my name the whole stay, and when I needed restaurant recommendations, she pointed me toward places where I ended up being the only obvious tourist. That’s worth something, you know?
