Hotel Description

You know what caught me off guard about Apartments & Rooms Tapera? Walking up to this place on Od Hladnice feels like you’re heading into some residential neighborhood — which, honestly, you kind of are. Lapad isn’t where the cruise ship crowds hang out, and that’s actually perfect if you want to experience Dubrovnik without constantly dodging selfie sticks. I mean, you’re still close enough to catch the bus to Old Town (the line 6 stops right nearby), but when you come back in the evening, it’s this quiet, tree-lined area where locals are just going about their business.

The rooms themselves are pretty straightforward — think clean, functional, with that slightly old-school Croatian apartment vibe. Nothing fancy, but everything works, and honestly, the beds are more comfortable than you’d expect for a 3-star place. What I really appreciated was how the owners actually seem to care about the details. The WiFi doesn’t cut out every five minutes like some places I’ve stayed, and there’s usually hot water when you need it (which sounds basic, but you’d be surprised). The kitchenette situation is handy too — there’s a Konzum grocery store about a 10-minute walk away, and after a few days of restaurant meals, being able to make your own coffee and grab some local cheese and bread feels like a luxury. The windows open wide, which is great for those summer nights when the air conditioning isn’t quite cutting it, and you can actually hear the cicadas instead of traffic noise.

Here’s the thing about staying in Lapad — it’s where you get a feel for how people actually live in Dubrovnik. You’ll walk past the same café every morning where the old guys play cards, and there’s this little bakery that opens stupidly early but has the best burek you’ll find outside of someone’s grandmother’s kitchen. The Tapera sits right in the middle of all this normal life, which I found way more interesting than being trapped in some tourist bubble. Sure, it’s not going to blow your mind with luxury amenities, but the 7.8 rating makes sense — it’s solid, reliable, and the location gives you options. You can walk to the peninsula’s beaches (Lapad Bay is actually lovely for swimming), catch public transport easily, or just wander around residential streets that look nothing like the postcard version of Croatia but tell you so much more about the place. Plus, parking isn’t the nightmare it is closer to the old walls — something to consider if you’re driving around the coast.

Reviews

  • Superb – Michael from Australia – 25 September 2023 (9/10)

    Spacious. Attractive. Close to everything

What could be improved: Shower head mounted at waist height? Why? Many steps to carry luggage

  • Superb – Jelena from Latvia – 6 October 2022 (9/10)

very good apartment for couple stay. it is separated from owners house, so we did not bother anyone. owners were very polite and answered all additional questions we had during our stay 👍🏻

What could be improved: located a bit far from the old town

  • Decent – Selena from Netherlands – 25 July 2022 (7/10)

Very nice view (although you share the balcony with another room), bed was comfortable. Cute tortoises in the yard. Price was reasonable compared to other places in area.

What could be improved: Far from old town (30 minute walk), wifi did not work. Not any restaurants around.

  • Good – Sara from Netherlands – 29 April 2025 (7/10)

The location was very convenient to visit the city by bus. The surroundings of the place were very peacefull. Very friendly and responsive host!

What could be improved: Unfortunately, on the private parking of the property somebody bumped into our car and did not notify us.

  • I recommend – Joanne from France – 22 June 2024 (8/10)

The apartment is spacious, suitable for more than two people, and features a large terrace. It is is well-equipped with evth that you need (AC, washing machine, hairdryer, coffee, tea, car parking …
With a car, it’s only a 5-7 minute drive to the old town, making it conveniently close. However, parking in Dubrovnik is very expensive. On our last night, we opted for an Uber, which was cheaper than driving and parking, costing around €7.50.
The host was very nice; she sent us a very delicious homemade dessert.

    What could be improved: Nothing

  • Great value, not so great location. – Michaela from United Kingdom – 11 August 2022 (7/10)

Given the price of this property in comparison to others in Dubrovnik it's fantastic. There was A/C in the living room/kitchen, and the washing machine was great for the many trips we made to the beach. The rental company you communicate to the host through was highly responsive. Having the terrace for evening drinks was also wonderful.

What could be improved: The location wasn't great. We thought the 2 beaches would be much closer (10 minute walking distance) but Lapad beach was 25 minutes away, roughly the same distance to the Old Town. There also isn't much available closeby, so you have to do a bit of walking to get to any good restaurants/supermarkets. There was A/C in only one of the rooms, meaning those in the double bedroom had none and visiting during a heatwave in August made it difficult to sleep.

  • Excellence!!! – Antonios from Greece – 3 October 2024 (10/10)

    Everything was perfect!!!

  • The apartment is clean and practical. – Agnete from Norway – 4 September 2024 (10/10)

The apartment is very clean and it’s close to the bus stop. It is easy to move around the area. The terrace is nice for breakfast and dinner. There are cute turtles in the garden as well!

What could be improved: The water got all over the floor when we showered.

  • Good, quiet place for a large family with space to spread out. – Dulcia from France – 24 August 2024 (10/10)

We rented both apartments as we are a family of six so we had the little building behind the big one to ourselves. There is outdoor seating on two patios. The place is on a hill so has a nice view. The air conditionning was great and there were lines outside to dry our swimming suits. Overall, it was perfect for our family. Everything in Dubrovnik is so expensive and we booked fairly late so we were happy to have found this. Walk to a beach in 15 mins and to the active harbor in 15 (Old town is 40).

What could be improved: It's a 30-40 min walk to Old town but there is a bus about 10 mins away and an Uber for 6 is even cheaper than the bus.

  • Excellent – Iza from United Kingdom – 22 August 2023 (10/10)

The property was great, location with wonderful view. Very nice, cosy and safe place to stay. Beautiful and full of great hart people. I can recommend.
