Apartments Simic Overview

Look, I’ve stayed in a lot of places in Dubrovnik over the years, and honestly, Apartments Simic kind of surprised me. It’s tucked away on Bernarda Shawa street – which, if you don’t know the area, is actually perfect positioning. You’re close enough to walk to the Old Town without dealing with all the cruise ship chaos that hits the main tourist strips, but far enough that you can actually sleep at night without drunk tourists singing outside your window at 2 AM.

The thing about this place is that it feels like someone’s actual home that they’ve thoughtfully converted, not some sterile corporate setup. I mean, sure, it’s technically a 3-star property, but that 9.6 rating isn’t just inflated reviews – there’s something genuinely welcoming about how the Simic family runs things. The apartments themselves are spacious in that European way where you’re not constantly bumping into furniture, and the kitchenettes are actually functional if you want to grab some produce from the local market and cook instead of eating out every meal (your wallet will thank you, trust me). The Wi-Fi works properly, which – you know what – isn’t always a given in Croatian accommodations, especially in the older buildings.

What really sold me was the neighborhood feel. You’ve got this little bakery about two minutes away that opens early and makes these incredible burek pastries, and there’s a small grocery store that stays open later than the touristy ones near the walls. The walk to Pile Gate takes maybe 15 minutes if you’re strolling, less if you’re eager to get to the marble streets. But here’s the thing – after a long day of dodging tour groups and climbing those ancient steps, coming back to Bernarda Shawa feels like retreating to actual Dubrovnik, not tourist Dubrovnik. You’ll hear neighbors chatting in Croatian, smell someone’s dinner cooking, see kids playing in the small courtyards. It’s the kind of authentic slice of life that most visitors completely miss because they’re staying right in the thick of everything. The parking situation is decent too, which anyone who’s driven in Dubrovnik will tell you is basically a minor miracle. I wouldn’t call it luxury, but it’s thoughtful and comfortable, and sometimes that beats fancy amenities that don’t actually work properly.

Reviews of Apartments Simic

  • Very nice apartment – Marjut from Spain – 4 July 2025 (9/10)

We spent a nice 5 days in Dubrovnik and the surrounding area. The apartment was very clean and functional, and the owner was very nice. He took good care of us during the visit and arranged transportation to and from the airport. The views from the apartment are breathtaking. Thank you Mladen for everything!

  • Superb – Simon from United Kingdom – 27 June 2025 (9/10)

Clean and comfortable apartment with a million dollar view of the Old Town. Host Mladen was really friendly and welcomed us with snacks and drinks in the fridge.

What could be improved: Like many other apartments in Dubrovnik, there are literally hundreds of steps up to it from the road. Pack light!

  • Exceptional – Myriam from Germany – 26 June 2025 (10/10)

Everything was perfect! We arrived on a Sunday and the shops were closed. But we found bread, cheese, fruit, coffee, tea and orange juice provided for us by the apartment owners!
During our stay they were extremely helpful with information about the city and possible excursions. We even got a homade bottle of wine! And the view is spectacular.

  • Amazing apartment – Alan from Ireland – 8 June 2025 (10/10)

Amazing view of the old town. A fabulous host who was more than helpful. The apartment was spotless. Would definitely recommend it and will definitely stay here again when we are in this area

What could be improved: Everything was great. But my only issue would be to put a black out curtain or blind in the bedroom. But apart from that, everything was perfect

  • Superb – Frances from Canada – 30 May 2025 (9/10)

    The view and the hosts.

Our hosts were very welcoming and had left us a plate of local cheeses and meats along with two beers in the fridge. What a lovely surprise and so appreciated after a very long day of travel from Canada. We enjoyed them, and the view, on the patio. Highly recommend staying here but only if you are able to climb stairs to and from the Old Town.

What could be improved: Not a negative about the apartment itself but a note to make you aware that this is above the Old Town so there are many stairs to climb.

  • Amazing apartment close to old town with spectacular terrace and views – Kayla from United States – 25 May 2025 (10/10)

We loved everything about the apartment! Clean, spacious, very comfortable bed, a 10-minute walk to the old town, and stunning views from the terrace! Mladen is very friendly and helpful and lives on the property, so we often ran into him and enjoyed chatting.

  • Exceptional – Huang from China – 14 May 2025 (10/10)

The apartment has an amazing sea view! There are some stairs to climb to get to the apartment, but nothing too difficult. Mladen is a great host—he kept the place clean and prepared some welcome food and drinks. We really enjoyed our stay!

  • Highly recommended stay in Dubrovnik! – Carol from Ireland – 24 April 2025 (10/10)

The apartment was fabulous. Plenty of space for the two of us. Clean and well furnished with everything you need for a holiday! The view from the balcony was stunning and the perfect place to spend an hour in the evening watching the boats and sunset over the old town. 10 minutes walk away from the major tourist attractions. Mladen went above and beyond and was so attentive to our needs.

  • We enjoyed our stay in the property and will not hesitate to come back – Marvin from United States – 13 April 2025 (9/10)

Views from the property terrace are spectacular.
    Rooms are clean.
Location is easily accessible from the major road
The host is very helpful giving us local tips.

What could be improved: Its not really big deal for us but be prepared for plenty of stairs when going to and from Old Town.

  • Gorgeous spot to stay above old town Dubrovnik – Kyle from United States – 21 September 2024 (10/10)

The view from this apartment is spectacular! Exactly how it looks in all the photos. The host is also extremely kind, he met me and showed me the easiest way into the property. He and his wife live downstairs so they are nearby, and his wife prepared a meat & cheese plate, some bread, and some juice for me upon arrival which was so sweet! The location is also walking distance to the old city of Dubrovnik (just beware walking back to the property is mostly uphill).
