You know what? I wasn’t expecting much from BeLinda sea view when I first pulled up to Ulica Alberta Hallera – honestly, the name sounds a bit like someone’s aunt decided to open a B&B. But this little 3-star gem in Lapad completely won me over, and I get why it’s sitting at a 9.3 rating.

The thing about staying in Lapad is that you’re actually living like locals do, away from the cruise ship crowds that swarm Old Town during the day. BeLinda sits on this quiet residential street where you’ll hear Croatian families chatting on their balconies in the evening instead of tour guides with megaphones. The sea view rooms – and honestly, spring for one if you can – look out over this gorgeous stretch of coastline that most tourists never even know exists. I mean, everyone’s fighting for photos on the city walls while you’re watching the sunset paint the Adriatic from your window with a glass of wine. The Lapad peninsula has this relaxed, almost sleepy vibe that feels like the Croatia people actually live in.

What struck me most was how the staff just… cared? Like, they remembered I take my coffee black after day two, and when I mentioned wanting to find a good konoba (that’s a traditional tavern, by the way), they didn’t just point me toward the touristy spots. They sent me to this family-run place about ten minutes walk away where I had the best peka of my life – slow-cooked lamb that locals have been making the same way for generations. The rooms themselves are clean and comfortable without being fancy, which honestly felt perfect after long days exploring. Sure, the WiFi can be spotty sometimes, and you’ll hear the occasional bus rumbling by, but there’s something authentic about staying somewhere that doesn’t feel like a sterile hotel chain. The walk to Old Town takes about 20 minutes along the coast, or you can catch bus number 6 right from the corner – though I actually preferred the walk because you pass through these neighborhoods where laundry flutters from windows and old men play cards at sidewalk cafes. It’s the kind of place where you’ll find yourself lingering on the small balcony (most rooms have them) just watching life happen below, maybe planning tomorrow’s adventure to the nearby Elafiti Islands or just debating whether to grab dinner at that little pizzeria down the street where they know how to make a proper Margherita.
