You know how most visitors get stuck in those cookie-cutter hotels near the Pile Gate, dealing with tour groups and inflated prices? Well, this little gem sits right in the thick of Old Town but somehow feels like a secret.
The thing about Zeljarica 5 is the location – I mean, you’re literally living inside the ancient walls, but it’s tucked away enough that you’re not constantly dodging cruise ship crowds. When I first walked up (and yeah, there are some stone steps, but nothing crazy), I was struck by how quiet it gets once you step inside. The apartment itself has this lovely lived-in Croatian feel – not sterile like some rentals, but actually comfortable. The owner clearly gets that travelers want authentic details, so you’ll find local touches throughout that make it feel less like a hotel room and more like borrowing a friend’s place. The 9.7 rating makes total sense when you experience the personal attention – they actually care about your stay, not just processing you through.
What really sold me was stepping onto the terrace in the evening. You can hear the gentle hum of Stradun below, but it’s filtered through these old stone walls in a way that feels atmospheric rather than noisy. And honestly, the value here is incredible – you’re paying 3-star prices for what feels like a much more premium experience, especially considering you’re staying in UNESCO World Heritage territory. The practical stuff works too: they’ll sort out your arrival even if you’re coming in late (which happens a lot with those afternoon flights from European cities), and they know all the local tricks – like which bakery opens earliest and where to find parking that won’t cost you a fortune. I actually ended up extending my stay an extra night because leaving felt like saying goodbye to a neighborhood rather than just checking out of accommodation.

Loved our stay at Bella apartment Excellent location in the middle of old town. Spacious, clean and well equipped apartment with character and rooftop views. Very welcoming and attentive host.

The perfect apartment in Dubrovnik Old City! Bella apartment was wonderful! It was spacious with 2 bedrooms with comfortable beds and a beautiful bathroom on the bottom floor. The top floor had a very well stocked kitchen with a Nespresso coffee machine, refrigerator and microwave along with an area to relax. Nice views from the windows of the old town and St. Blaise church and square. It was an easy 4 minute walk from the Ploče Gate and easy to roll our suitcases on the flat stones.
The host, Marcela, was outstanding! She answered many questions before we arrived and was very responsive. Marcela emailed a lot of information before we arrived. She arranged for taxi Niksha to pick us up at the airport (40 euros) and he waited for us just outside the airport contacting us after we landed. The location was 1 block from Stradun (the main street in Dubrovnik) and walkable to everything. I would definitely recommend staying in the Old City and at Bella apartment!
What could be improved: Just a note that it is 2 flights up to the apartment without an elevator. I was with my 83 year old mother and she did fine. We used a luggage service who can take your suitcases from the Ploče Gate at the edge of town to the apartment and up the stairs. https://luggagestoragedubrovnik.hr/
A perfect apartment with a perfect host. Our great apartment was located perfectly in the center of town. Marcela was a dream host, contacting me with specific detailed information for a smooth, nice stay. She was flexible with our arrival time and even set up a transfer with Niksha. We liked him so much that we arranged for Niksha to drive us a few times. A perfect stay. Thanks Marcela.
Staying 5 days and nights in this wonderful city and perfect apartment was the perfect holiday! Location was perfectly situated in the Old Town .There was a great selection of places to eat and we had easy access to land and sea tours.
What could be improved: We sometimes found the stairs up to the apartment a challenge . Younger travellers would probably have no problems !

Remarkable apartment! A brilliant location - right in the heart of the city. A superb host who was thorough and catered for all our needs. The host even left toys for our children!
