You know what struck me first about the Berkeley Hotel? It’s actually tucked away on Andrije Hebranga street, which honestly took me a minute to find – but that’s sort of the point. While everyone’s crowding around the Old Town hotels, you’re about a 15-minute walk from all that tourist chaos, and I mean that in the best way possible. The neighborhood feels properly Croatian, with actual locals grabbing coffee at the café down the street and kids playing in the small park nearby. When you’re walking back from a long day of exploring Dubrovnik’s walls (and trust me, your feet will thank you for not staying right in the thick of it), there’s something genuinely relaxing about turning onto this quieter stretch.

The hotel itself has that solid, unpretentious vibe that I actually prefer over some of the flashier places. Check-in was smooth – no weird surprises or hidden fees that seem to pop up everywhere these days. The rooms are what you’d expect from a proper 4-star place, nothing groundbreaking but everything works, the AC keeps up with those brutal summer afternoons, and the beds are actually comfortable (you’d be surprised how often that’s not a given). I appreciated the little touches too, like decent coffee in the room and blackout curtains that actually block out the morning sun when you’ve had one too many glasses of that local wine the night before. The bathroom had good water pressure, which honestly matters more than people admit when you’re washing off a day of walking around in 30-degree heat.

What really sold me on this place was the breakfast situation – they do this spread that’s half international stuff, half local items, and the local cheese and prosciutto were genuinely good. Plus, the staff actually knows the area well; when I asked about getting to Lokrum Island, the guy at reception gave me the real scoop about timing the boats and avoiding the crowds, not just some generic brochure answer. The 9.1 rating makes sense when you stay here – it’s not trying to be something it’s not, just a solid, well-run hotel where everything works as it should. Parking was straightforward too, which if you’re driving in Dubrovnik, you’ll understand is basically a miracle. I’d definitely come back, especially during shoulder season when the whole city feels more manageable and you can actually enjoy that short walk to the old town without melting.
