Hotel Description

So I stumbled across Blue Dreams while wandering through the maze of Dubrovnik’s Old Town last summer, and honestly? The name had me rolling my eyes a bit – I mean, come on. But you know what, it actually fits once you’re inside. The place sits right on Getaldiceva ulica, which is this narrow stone street that most tourists rush past on their way to the main drag, but that’s exactly why it works.

The thing about staying inside the old city walls is that you’re literally living in a UNESCO World Heritage site, which sounds fancy until you realize it means zero parking and hauling your luggage over centuries-old cobblestones. But here’s the trade-off – step outside Blue Dreams at 7 AM and you’ve got those famous limestone streets almost to yourself. The cruise ship crowds don’t really get going until 9, so there’s this magical hour where you can actually hear your footsteps echoing off the walls instead of fighting through selfie sticks. The hotel itself is tucked into one of those converted stone buildings that somehow manages to feel cozy rather than claustrophobic. Don’t expect huge rooms – I mean, they’re working with medieval architecture here – but everything’s thoughtfully done. The beds are actually comfortable (not always a given in European old towns), and they’ve got this whole blue and white theme going that could’ve been cheesy but somehow isn’t. My room faced the narrow street, which meant it was quiet at night but you could hear the first coffee machines firing up at the konoba across the way around 6:30.

What really sold me was the staff – particularly this woman at reception who didn’t just give me a map but actually walked me outside and pointed out which route to take to avoid the morning tour groups heading to the Rector’s Palace. She also mentioned that the little bakery two streets over opens at 6 and makes these incredible burek pastries before anywhere else gets started. That’s the kind of local knowledge you can’t Google. The location means you’re a two-minute walk from Stradun (the main street) but far enough off it that you’re not dealing with the constant stream of day-trippers. Honestly, for a 3-star place, it punches above its weight – probably because the owners seem to actually care about the experience rather than just cramming in as many beds as possible. Just pack light and comfortable shoes, because those cobblestones are beautiful but murder on wheeled luggage.

Reviews

  • Great value in the heart of Old Town – Christian from Canada – 16 September 2024 (7/10)

Location was excellent, right in the heart of Old Town. Had all the basics we were looking for – AC, kitchenette, shower with hot water, fridge, wifi, towels. Also had cutlery, dishes, pans, kettle, etc if you wanted to cook.

What could be improved: Room itself was quite dated, but it’s exactly what the photos suggest. Not “modern” by any means. Mattress was a little on the flimsy side. TV didn’t seem to work. The sink in the washroom leaked.

  • Superb – Pascale from France – 18 June 2025 (9/10)

L'emplacement idéal à l'intérieur des remparts, parfait pour découvrir la ville, bien équipé
