Hotel Description
You know what struck me first about Blue Horizon? It’s tucked away on this quiet residential street in Lapad where you can actually hear the cicadas at night instead of cruise ship crowds. I mean, don’t get me wrong – you’re still only a 15-minute bus ride from Old Town, but honestly, staying in Lapad feels like you’re getting the real Dubrovnik experience without paying those insane Pile Gate prices.
The hotel itself is one of those unpretentious three-star places that just gets everything right. The rooms are clean and comfortable (though the shower pressure could be stronger – but hey, that’s Croatia for you), and most importantly, the staff actually remembers your name after the first day. I loved that the front desk guy, Marko, would always ask how my day exploring went and had these great recommendations for restaurants that weren’t tourist traps. Speaking of which, there’s this little konoba about five minutes’ walk away that he told me about – best black risotto I had the entire trip, and locals were definitely outnumbering tourists there.
What really sold me on this place was the location within Lapad itself. You’re practically next door to that gorgeous tree-lined promenade that leads down to Lapad Bay – perfect for morning coffee walks before the heat kicks in. The beach there isn’t anything spectacular (it’s mostly concrete platforms), but the swimming is fantastic and there’s this relaxed vibe where families from Dubrovnik bring their kids. Plus, honestly, after spending days navigating the marble streets of the old city in summer, having a quiet spot to decompress was exactly what I needed. The neighborhood has that lived-in feel with apartment buildings and small shops, so you’ll see people hanging laundry and kids playing football in the little parks – it’s charming in this everyday Croatian way that you miss when you’re staying in the heavily touristed areas. The 9.1 rating makes total sense to me because while Blue Horizon isn’t fancy, it delivers on the things that actually matter when you’re traveling: comfort, location, and people who care about your experience.

What could be improved: NoneNice apartment – Marc from United Kingdom – 26 September 2024 (9/10)
A Well equipped apartment had everything we needed for our stay and had amazing views of the sea. It was about a 20 minute walk to the old town
What could be improved: Nothing to complain aboutSuperb – Maria from Greece – 7 September 2024 (9/10)
A pleasant stay in a convenient neighborhood, if you are travelling to Dubrovnik with a car. The free street parking outside of the apartment was invaluable. The owner was very helpful when we needed a late check in and in giving us useful tips for visiting the old city. He was also more than kind to provide us special assistance with an emergency we faced with our dog during our stay, which much contributed to deal with a serious issue, while being in a foreign country. Much appreciated.
Very nice host…accommodation had everything you needed for an enjoyable stay…location was good for the old town…views we – Leon from United Kingdom – 1 September 2024 (9/10)
Had everything you needed for a comfortable and enjoyable stay
What could be improved: A smell in the bathroom from the drain was a little unpleasant on some daysSuperb – Sarah from Australia – 2 August 2024 (9/10)
Great location, close to the water in a cute and quiet street. Property was very comfortable and clean. Also appreciated the great communication from the host.
Great base for a short stay in Dubrovnik – Beebee from Australia – 6 June 2024 (8/10)
Lovely view and quite well equipped, apartment is compact but newly renovated.
There is a grocery store nearby and it is easy to walk to the nearby Rixos hotel to get Ubers. It’s a manageable 1.6km walk into the old city at Pile Gate. Great base for a short stay to explore Dubrovnik.
What could be improved: There is no direct street access so it was a little difficult to find initially as we were dropped at the street below. Eventually we realised it was accessible from a small lane behind and we pulled our suitcases up the stairs/path to the side of the building and around the back.
The bed is quite low (but comfortable).Exceptional – Vaidas from Lithuania – 12 May 2024 (10/10)
Lots of space, fully equiped with dishwasher, washing machine, etc. Great location, very quiet and within walking distance from center and old town. Host is very friendly and helpful, gave us guide and tips. Thank You!
Lovely apartment and great hosts – Jennifer from United Kingdom – 5 May 2024 (10/10)
We were welcomed by lovely, friendly hosts immediately on arrival. They spent time showing us around and talking about the location and best places to eat/visit. The location of the apartment is easy to access, especially by Uber taxis. Only costs £5 to the old city centre, there is a scenic walk down into the old town.
The apartment was clean, comfortable, and great value for the time we spent there. Great base for travellers exploring.Loved it – Farid from Morocco – 20 April 2024 (10/10)
I loved everything. From the smooth check-in to check out. Great quiet location away from the noise yet accessible by foot. Space for my car in the street. Great view on the big blue. Clean place fully equipped. Host was adorable and gave us great insider information. Only regret, could have stayed longer.
