Hotel Description
Look, I’ll be honest – when I first walked down Ulica Đura Pulića looking for Caleda Rooms, I almost missed it entirely. It’s tucked into this narrow street that most tourists blow right past on their way to the Old Town walls, which is actually perfect because you get all the charm without the cruise ship crowds stampeding past your window at 7 AM.
The thing about this place is that it gets the boutique hotel concept right without trying too hard, you know? The rooms have this clean, modern vibe but they didn’t strip away all the character – there are still those beautiful stone details that remind you you’re in a 500-year-old city. My room had these gorgeous wooden shutters that I kept opening and closing like a kid because, I mean, when else do you get real shutters? The bed was honestly one of the most comfortable I’ve slept in during three weeks of hopping around the Balkans, and the bathroom had this rainfall shower that actually worked (trust me, that’s not a given in Croatian hotels).
What really sold me on Caleda Rooms was the staff – they know Dubrovnik like the back of their hand and they’re not just reciting tourist board talking points. When I mentioned I wanted to avoid the packed restaurants near Stradun, the guy at reception told me about this little konoba tucked behind the cathedral where locals actually eat. He also warned me that the street can get a bit noisy on weekend nights since there’s a popular bar around the corner, but honestly? It died down by midnight and the windows blocked most of it anyway. The location is sort of a goldilocks situation – you’re a three-minute walk from all the main sights but far enough away that you can actually breathe and move without getting swept up in tour groups. Plus, there’s a little grocery store literally next door, which saved me when I realized I’d forgotten my phone charger and didn’t want to pay tourist prices in the Old Town. Parking is tricky (like everywhere in Dubrovnik), but they arranged a spot for me in a nearby garage for about 15 euros a day, which is pretty reasonable for the area. The whole experience felt like staying at a friend’s really well-designed apartment rather than some sterile hotel chain – if that friend happened to have impeccable taste and knew exactly how to make Croatian coffee.
