You know what surprised me about Captain’s Place? It’s tucked away on the second floor of this old building on Metohijska ulica, and honestly, when I first walked up those stairs, I wasn’t sure what to expect. But the moment you turn right and step inside, it’s like finding this hidden gem that somehow perfectly captures what staying in Dubrovnik should feel like – without all the tourist trap nonsense.

The thing about this location is that you’re actually in the heart of the old town, but on one of those quieter streets that most visitors just walk past on their way to the main drag. I mean, you’re literally a two-minute walk from Stradun, but you won’t hear the crowds of cruise ship passengers shuffling by at 7 AM. The owner clearly knows Dubrovnik inside and out – there’s local art on the walls, and they’ve got these little touches that you only see when someone actually lives in a place and cares about it. The rooms have this authentic Croatian feel without being kitschy about it, if that makes sense. Stone walls, wooden beams, but also proper air conditioning and WiFi that actually works (trust me, this matters in July).

What really got me was how quiet it is at night. You’d think being right in the old town would mean noise, but Metohijska is one of those residential streets where locals actually live, so it settles down after the restaurants close. I slept better there than at some of those fancy hotels outside the walls where you hear traffic all night. The check-in was refreshingly straightforward too – no corporate hotel rigmarole, just genuine hospitality from people who seem to actually enjoy what they’re doing. And here’s something practical: if you’re arriving with luggage, know that it’s old town cobblestones and stairs, so pack light or be prepared for a bit of a workout. But honestly? That’s part of the charm. You’re staying in a medieval city, not a strip mall. The rating of 9 out of 10 makes complete sense once you’re there – it’s not trying to be a luxury resort, it’s just doing what it does really, really well.

  Very helpful and responsive host! Bus stop (to Old Town and Lapad area) and grocery/bakery (burek!) are right outside the apt.; close to bus/ferry terminal so easy to get to the arboretum/Montenegro and other islands. Had everything to self-cater.

  The communication with the hosts was wonderful, they tried to accomodate all my requests and answer all my questions. Easy access with key in the lockbox. Above-standard equiped kitchen, comfortable bed and available air-conditioning (we did not use it in late May). There is a grocery store just outside the buidling as well as some other shops (we bought cheap sunglasses there as I forgot it at home) and you can see the beautiful Gruž port from the windows. There is a small farmer´s market nearby every morning and quite a few restaurants to choose from too.
  To the city center you can take the bus (or Bolt / Uber) but we walked and it is very nice. We also walked from the port up the hill and continued to Srd´ hill which was wonderful as we could see the port from above as well as Dubrovnik city center and saved a LOT of money on the cable car 😉 – highly recommended!
  
  What could be improved: The apartment is on a 1st floor going up a few narrow and rather steep steps so not suitable with someone with mobility issues or you may struggle a little bit with a heavy suitcase…. Anyhow, we had no trouble what so ever!

  10/10 I could not fault this property.
  Kitchen had everything you could need, bathroom clean and offers little toiletries if needed and bedroom clean and cosy!
  The owners answered all my questions putting my mind at ease and i was very grateful!
  Not far from Dubrovnik bus garage so perfect for getting airport shuttle, and bus stops for old town located right outside property.
  Best property I’ve ever stayed at I hope to return one day.

  Great location. Clean. Very well, furnished with kitchen and all the needed equipment. Washing machine. We did not need these things or use them, but they were available.

  Really nice apartment in great location ( close to shops , bakery, café and bus station ) Very helpfully host ,gave us advice on good restaurant place to visit ,and what is the best way to go around town and how to get to airport .our flight home was on evening , but we have been allowed to do late checkout

  Captains Place is a beautiful accommodation near the Dubrovnik Porto. It was clean and comfortable. I appreciate the air conditioning a lot. There are nice restaurants and café near the flat. The price was clever.
