Hotel Description

You know what struck me first about Central Apartment? The address actually tells you everything you need to know – Kneza Damjana Jude is this quiet little street that’s literally inside Dubrovnik’s Old Town walls, but it’s tucked away enough that you’re not dealing with the constant stream of cruise ship tourists tramping past your window. I mean, you’re still in the thick of things (the Stradun is maybe a two-minute walk), but there’s something almost secretive about the location that makes you feel like you’ve found something special.

The building itself has that authentic Dalmatian stone thing going on – honestly, half the charm is just waking up and remembering you’re sleeping inside medieval walls. The apartment is surprisingly spacious for Old Town standards, and whoever runs this place actually gets what travelers need. The kitchen is properly equipped (not just a mini-fridge and a hot plate like some places), and the bathroom has decent water pressure, which… well, if you’ve stayed in old European cities before, you know that’s not always a given. The air conditioning works well too, which you’ll definitely appreciate if you’re visiting during those sweltering July and August months when the limestone streets basically turn into a pizza oven.

What really sold me on this place though is how it manages to feel residential rather than touristy. You’ll hear church bells from nearby St. Blaise in the morning instead of tour groups, and there’s this little konoba around the corner that locals actually eat at – not the kind of place that has menus in six languages, you know? The 9.4 rating makes sense when you experience it; it’s not trying to be some luxury resort experience, but everything just works the way it should. Parking is tricky like anywhere in the Old Town (you’ll probably end up at the Ilijina Glavica lot outside the walls), but honestly, once you’re settled in, you won’t want to drive anywhere anyway. The port where the ferries leave for the islands is a pleasant ten-minute walk, and you can reach pretty much any restaurant or sight in the Old Town without breaking a sweat. I’d definitely stay here again – it’s got that perfect balance of being right in the heart of things while still feeling like a proper home base rather than just another tourist accommodation.

I liked the location. The place was clean and quiet at night. The location has a good view, but the busy wall walking tour go right past the windows. This turned out to be no problem except I felt like I was in fish bowl during tour hours, after a while it was really fun to just watch.
The location was great! The sleeping was quiet, beds are nice. The place is not very quiet during business hours because of the patrons talking at the restaurants below, only till about 9 at night then super quiet. The excellent sound proof windows are really good at blocking any sound if needed. I love the view of the mountain and tram from the couch.

What could be improved: Bathroom is tiny.

Amazing apartment on the city walls. Would not hesitate to recommend. Host was excellent. Apartment in the best location and very clean.

  • Esther from United Kingdom – 30 October 2024 (9/10)

The location was exceptional and unique. Right by the old port and facing the city walls with a view out to the cable car ascending the hills. We were apprehensive when we arrived in the middle of the day and saw people filing past on the city walls but it turned out to be a fun experience and most of the time the city walls were open we were out of the apartment.

  • Elise from Australia – 4 September 2024 (8/10)

Great location near the port. Small apartment but it’s an historic building so it’s been made to fit in that.

What could be improved: Great apartment for families but a bit awkward for two couples as you need to through main bedroom to get to second bedroom.

  • Claire from United Kingdom – 28 August 2024 (10/10)

Host is lovely and apartment is fully kitted with everything you need. Absolutely amazing location inside the wall. Beautiful balcony.

  • Theresa from Canada – 25 August 2024 (9/10)

Location was excellent! You could see people on THE wall! Space for 4 adults was good. Kitchen was well stocked. Shower was great! Great restaurants very nearby.

What could be improved: Only one a/c in the apartment, but did not reach the second room with the twin beds, although each room had a ceiling fan which helped.

  • Ian from United Kingdom – 21 August 2024 (10/10)

Wonderful 3 night stay at Central Apartment. Owners were really responsive and helpful. Location couldn’t be better and apartment had everything and more than we needed. There is a partial view of the harbour from the window, obscured by The Wall. But we actually enjoyed watching people walking the wall. Really quiet with the windows closed, blocked out any street noise at night. And a small balcony just before you enter apartment door so you can sit outside and take in the atmosphere.
We loved being so central, meaning we could pop back if it rained (it did one day) or if we got too hot.
Great restaurants on that street, enjoyed meals at Storia and Trattoria Carmen, and also Arsenal restaurant overlooking the harbour.

What could be improved: Nothing, had a fabulous stay. Do want to point out to prospective bookers that it is 3rd floor (about 43 steps), not a problem for us and improved view from window. And twin room is accessed via the double room, again not a problem for a family but might be if 2 couples were booking.

  • Justin from United Kingdom – 29 July 2024 (10/10)

Amazing location for exploring the old city.

    What could be improved: Nothing.

    Amazing location, wonderful host!!

What could be improved: No laundry 😫
