Hotel Description
You know what hit me first when I walked into this place? The light. I mean, everyone talks about Dubrovnik’s beauty, but this little apartment in Ploče actually captures it in a way that makes you want to just sit there with your morning coffee and stare. The terrace – and it’s a proper terrace, not some tiny balcony – looks straight out over the Old Town’s terracotta rooftops, and honestly, the view changes throughout the day in ways that keep surprising you.
The apartment itself is exactly what you’d want after spending hours wandering those ancient streets (which, let’s be real, can be pretty overwhelming with all the cruise ship crowds). It’s got this lived-in charm that feels authentic without being shabby – the kind of place where you can actually picture yourself staying for a week, not just passing through. The bedroom’s tucked away nicely from the main living area, and the whole setup feels more like borrowing a friend’s place than staying in some sterile hotel room. I particularly loved how they’ve managed to keep the old character – you can tell this building has stories – while making sure everything actually works properly. The kitchen’s small but functional, which matters if you’re planning to grab fresh produce from the Gundulić market (about a 10-minute walk down the hill) and want to eat something that isn’t tourist-priced restaurant food every single meal.
What really sold me on this spot, though, is the location. Ploče isn’t where most tourists end up, which means you get this perfect balance – close enough to walk to Stradun and all the main sights, but far enough that you’re not dealing with the constant noise and crowds right outside your door. The walk down to the Old Town is actually pretty pleasant, especially in the early morning or late afternoon when the light hits the stone walls just right. And here’s something the guidebooks don’t tell you: the sound of the sea carries up here beautifully at night, but you’re high enough that you don’t get the harbor noise or the late-night party sounds from the bars down in the old city. Parking can be a bit tricky in this neighborhood (like everywhere in Dubrovnik, honestly), but the host was super helpful with directions, and once you figure out the local streets, it’s manageable. The whole experience felt refreshingly normal after dealing with some of the more touristy accommodations in the area – this is the kind of place where you can actually relax and feel like you’re experiencing the city rather than just checking boxes off a sightseeing list.
