You know what struck me first about Cozy Rooms At Old City Gate? The name actually undersells it. I mean, yeah, it’s cozy – but when you’re literally steps from Pile Gate with those massive stone walls rising up around you, “cozy” feels like calling Dubrovnik’s Old Town “pretty nice.” The location on Ulica branitelja Dubrovnika puts you right in that sweet spot where you’re close enough to everything that matters but far enough from the main Stradun crowds that you can actually get some sleep.

The rooms themselves are honestly what you’d expect from a solid 4-star place – nothing fancy, but everything works and it’s clean. What I loved though was how the staff seemed to genuinely know the area. When I asked about avoiding the cruise ship crowds at the city walls, the guy at reception didn’t just shrug and point toward a brochure. He actually told me to go around 7 AM or after 4 PM, and mentioned this little café called Gradska Kavana where locals grab coffee before the tourists wake up. That kind of local insight is worth its weight in gold when you’re trying to experience Dubrovnik beyond the Game of Thrones tour groups.

The 7.7 rating feels about right – it’s not going to blow you away, but it delivers on what it promises. The building has that old European charm (I think it’s actually pretty historic, though they don’t make a huge deal about it), and the stone walls keep things surprisingly cool even in summer. Fair warning though – if you’re here during peak season, the narrow streets can get pretty lively until late. But honestly, that’s part of the charm. You’re staying in a UNESCO World Heritage site, not a suburban hotel. The shower pressure was solid, the Wi-Fi worked fine, and check-in was smooth even when we arrived pretty late after a delayed flight from Split. Little things like that matter when you’re tired and just want to dump your bags and explore one of the most beautiful cities in the Mediterranean.

  I slept really well – the bed is very comfortable. The room is very quiet. It's also super close to Old Town – the old city. Just 2 minutes walk. The appartment has all you need to explore the city of Dubrovnik. The host came within 10 minutes to the location to open the door.

  The location is just next to the old town. Perfect spot. Very good communication with host and very helpful, also great value for money.

  The host was very nice and welcoming. He makes you feeling at home. He was very attentive about us having a nice time there.
  He also gave us the good tips to go out to enjoy the city, bar and restaurant.

  Clean and spacious with basic but functional kitchenette. Good advance communication with host, and good value for money for the excellent location if you want to explore the old town, which personally I think is over-touristy, but that’s another story!
  
  What could be improved: The only real complaint was the host offering to collect us from the port where we were getting the ferry to. This appeared a lovely gesture and I accepted, until I realised he wanted to charge twice the Uber fare. This for me is not good form and doesn’t leave a good taste in the mouth before even arriving. That said, there were no other issues. @ Peter – Charge the same as the Uber fare next time! 😉

  Small Rooms very close to the old City entrance. More importantly 100m away is a motorbike parking space.
  
  What could be improved: Some neighbour is deaf. If you hear Harp sounds don't be afraid. It's not the reaper. It's some kind of jingle from TV or Radio. You get used to it and it seemed someone turn down the volume each half an hour.

  The locaiton was incredible, you're literally in the castle! The owner is also super friendly and helpful. Room was spacious and clean 🙂 Considering how expensive everything else around there is, this was a great value for money!
  
  What could be improved: The wifi wasn't working while we were there (which to be honest we didn't really need) and soap wasn't provided until we asked.

  Amazing location just steps from the old city walls (it’s directly across from the Imperial Hilton) – so it’s a two minute walk to the walled city- that’s the best feature

  What could be improved: This is a basic accommodation so I’m not complaining about fancy BUT It’s not someplace I’d leave valuables. The interior door is flimsy and the lock is something a 5 year old could break thru. I’m glad I wasn’t alone. Hallway had a bunch of random stuff piled in The host was very kind but when we had paid for offsite parking (an additional 30 euro) we made arrangements for him to pick us up take us to the locked garage which he had the key- we arranged a pickup for 1130am and he showed up nearly an hour later 1220 so that’s frustrating when you’re trying to get on the road.
