The location is actually brilliant in that sneaky way that only locals really appreciate. You’re close enough to the Old Town that you can hear the church bells in the morning (which, let’s be honest, is either charming or mildly annoying depending on how much rakija you had the night before), but far enough away that you escape the cruise ship crowds that swarm the main squares. There’s this little bakery about thirty seconds from the entrance where the owner – I think his name is Marko – makes these incredible burek pastries that’ll ruin you for breakfast anywhere else. The studio itself has these gorgeous high ceilings and this sort of minimalist-meets-Mediterranean vibe that photographs beautifully but more importantly, actually feels comfortable to live in for a few days.

What really won me over was the attention to details that matter when you’re actually staying somewhere, not just Instagramming it. The shower pressure is fantastic (seriously underrated when you’re dealing with Adriatic salt in your hair), there’s proper blackout curtains for those summer nights when the sun doesn’t set until nearly 9 PM, and – this might sound weird – but the WiFi actually works consistently, which isn’t always a given in Dubrovnik’s stone buildings. The kitchen area has everything you need if you want to grab fresh seafood from the morning market near Gruž port, though honestly, with restaurants like Proto and Nautika so close by, I found myself cooking less than planned. The 9.6 rating makes total sense once you spend a night there – it’s one of those places where every single thing just works the way it should, which is rarer than you’d think. The only minor thing I’d mention is that the street can get a bit lively on weekend evenings, but throw in some earplugs and you’re golden. If you’re the type who wants to experience Dubrovnik like you actually live there for a week, rather than just checking off Game of Thrones filming locations, this place nails that balance perfectly.
