Hotel Description

So I stumbled upon this place on Lopudska ulica while wandering around Dubrovnik, and honestly – it’s one of those finds that makes you feel like you cracked some local code. The Dubrovnik Panorama apartment sits right in that sweet spot where you’re close enough to everything that matters but far enough from the cruise ship chaos that descends on the Old Town every morning around 9 AM.

The location is actually pretty brilliant when you think about it. Lopudska ulica runs parallel to the main tourist drag, which means you can slip into the Old Town through one of the side gates in about three minutes, but you’re not dealing with the constant stream of day-trippers wheeling suitcases over cobblestones at all hours. I mean, there’s still some street noise – this is a living city after all – but it’s more like the pleasant hum of locals going about their business rather than tour groups following umbrella-wielding guides. The apartment itself has that lived-in Croatian charm that you can’t fake in newer developments. You know what I’m talking about – solid stone walls that actually keep things cool during those brutal August afternoons, and windows positioned just right to catch the morning light without turning the place into a greenhouse by noon.

What really sold me on this spot was the view situation (hence the name, I suppose). You’re up high enough to get those postcard glimpses of the Adriatic between buildings, but you’re not so removed that you lose that authentic neighborhood feel. The 4-star rating feels about right – it’s comfortable and well-maintained without being fussy or over-designed. I’ve noticed that a lot of Dubrovnik accommodations either go full tourist-trap sterile or try too hard to be boutique-y, but this place strikes that middle ground where you feel like you’re staying in someone’s thoughtfully appointed home rather than a hotel room. The 8.5 rating from other travelers makes sense too – it’s the kind of place where small details work in your favor, like having actual counter space in the kitchen and shower pressure that doesn’t make you question your life choices.

Timing-wise, this area gets wonderfully quiet in the evenings when the day tourists head back to their ships or hotels in Lapad. You’ll hear locals chatting on their balconies and maybe some distant music from the Old Town, but it’s not the kind of noise that’ll keep you up. Spring and fall are obviously ideal here – you get all the charm without the summer crowds, and you can actually enjoy walking around without melting. Just a heads up though, parking can be a bit of an adventure in this part of town (welcome to any historic European city, really), so factor that in if you’re driving. But honestly, once you’re settled in, you probably won’t want to move your car anyway – everything worth seeing is either walkable or a quick bus ride away.

Reviews

  • Spacious apartment with beautiful view and easy connections to transit. – Marc from Canada – 23 July 2024 (8/10)

Mateo was an excellent host. He greeted us with homemade liquor, a bottle of wine, and some chocolate.
He was available when we needed him and ensured our place was equipped with a crib as per our request.
The apartment had a beautiful view with a gorgeous and spacious balcony where we enjoyed our dinner each night. The apartment is close to a main highway with easy connections by bus (3/3A) to the main town and bus station, and grocery stores, bakeries, and the main bus station only a short walk down hill.
The place had a full kitchen and spacious bath with a living room for extra space.

What could be improved: We had to wait a bit for the host to arrive to check-in.
The floors could have used a deeper clean.
The kitchen was a bit bare bones and could have been a better stocked. Hopefully the next guests will benefit from some more everyday kitchen items.
There were a lot of stairs up to the apartment and down to the building itself which we were a bit unprepared for with our luggage and stroller.
The electrical fuses in the apartment went off a handful of times when using kitchen appliances and the air conditioner simultaneously. Thankfully it was east to reset these in our own.
