Hotel Description

You know that moment when you’re walking through Dubrovnik’s Old Town and the crowds are getting to you, but you don’t want to stay somewhere that feels disconnected from everything? That’s exactly why I loved this little place on Zagrebačka ulica. The name “Few Steps from the Old Town” sounds almost too good to be true, but honestly – they’re not exaggerating. I’m talking maybe a three-minute walk to Pile Gate, which means you can duck back to your room when the midday tour groups hit their peak, then head out again for those magical golden hour photos when the light hits the city walls just right.

The building itself has that solid, unpretentious Croatian feel – none of the overly polished tourist hotel vibes you get closer to the port. What struck me most was how quiet it stays at night, even though you’re literally around the corner from all the action. The street itself is residential enough that you’ll see locals heading to work in the morning, but there’s this small grocery store about two doors down where the owner actually remembers your face after day two. The rooms are clean and straightforward (I mean, it’s a 3-star place, so don’t expect marble bathrooms), but everything works properly and the Wi-Fi is solid – which matters more than you’d think when you’re trying to upload those sunset shots from the city walls. The air conditioning actually keeps things cool during those sweltering July afternoons, and there’s something refreshing about the lack of tourist hotel muzak in the lobby.

Here’s what really sold me on the place though – the staff genuinely knows the neighborhood. When I mentioned wanting to find where locals eat breakfast, the guy at reception didn’t just point me toward the Old Town tourist traps. He sent me to this tiny café about four blocks away where I had the best burek of my entire trip, and it cost less than a coffee would’ve inside the walls. That kind of local knowledge is worth its weight in gold when you’re trying to experience Dubrovnik beyond the Game of Thrones tours. The 9.4 rating makes total sense once you’re there – it’s not trying to be something it’s not, but what it does deliver is exactly what you need: a comfortable base that lets you experience the city without fighting crowds every time you want to grab something from your room. Plus, if you’re planning to take the cable car up to Mount Srđ for sunrise (which you absolutely should), the walk to the lower station is actually shorter from here than from most of the fancier hotels down by the harbor.

Excellent location, still you need to climb stairs all over Dumbrovnic😂

  • Beautiful, modern little property – Patrina from Australia – 21 May 2025 (10/10)

Beautiful property. Very clean. Very modern. Very quiet. So close to Old Town. Owner seemed lovely (even though we don’t speak Croatian).

So glad we chose this rather than an Old Town property. Only had about 5 steps vs 50 steps that the Old Town properties looked like they had

What could be improved: Nothing to dislike!!

Except unfortunately there was no sofa bed. Listing needs updating. Also couldn’t get the stove top to work (might’ve been user error). And BYO toiletries

Note that there is a LOT of stairs to get back from Old Town but it’s only a €6 taxi

  • Nice, would recommend and go back. – Enrico from Italy – 31 October 2024 (10/10)

    Well organized. Clean. Functional.

What could be improved: A bit uphill, not too much really but in the hot days of August… you do feel the heat.

  • Superb – Anna from Denmark – 11 October 2024 (9/10)

even though the proprietor did not speak English we managed to communicate.

    clean and seemingly new place.
    comfortable bed.
every place in dubrovnik has steps to climb. this place however was easy to get to as it is next to the road.

What could be improved: I was there midweek so not so much traffic outside the window. I assume it would be a concern for some as the location is next to a busy street.

  • Everything was perfect! Close to old town and walking distance to tourist attractions. – Katrina from Ireland – 9 October 2024 (10/10)

The owner of the apartment is very nice and she was able to reply to my queries thru booking.com. She was the one who welcomed us and even though she doesn’t speak english, she gave us all the information in a printed paper. The apartment is near the old town and very accessible to everything you need. The room is clean and tidy as well as the toilet.. We didn’t use the kitchen but everything is complete. The apartment is just in the First floor and we didn’t use stairs to reach the place which is very handy! Over all, this is a value for money and I recommend it!
