I wasn’t expecting much when I first pulled up to Golden Niche Apartment on Zlatni Potok – I mean, the street name literally means “Golden Stream” which sounds almost too good to be true. But honestly, this place completely caught me off guard in the best way possible. It’s tucked away on the third floor of this charming building in Ploče, and the moment you step inside Pujo’s apartment, you get why it’s sitting at a 9.9 rating. The space has this lived-in elegance that feels authentically Croatian – not the sterile hotel vibe you get elsewhere, but like staying at your cultured friend’s place who happens to have impeccable taste.

What really struck me about this spot is how it captures that perfect Dubrovnik balance. You’re close enough to the Old Town that you can actually hear the morning bells from the cathedral (trust me, it’s charming, not annoying), but far enough away that you escape the tourist chaos that overtakes Stradun by 10 AM. The Ploče area is sort of this local secret – it’s where people actually live, so you’ll find yourself grabbing coffee at the same café as residents heading to work, not just cruise ship passengers. The apartment itself has these wonderful details that you only notice after a day or two: the way the afternoon light hits the living room around 4 PM, how the kitchen is actually equipped for real cooking (not just reheating), and the fact that the Wi-Fi doesn’t mysteriously cut out every hour like it does at most places.

I’ll be straight with you – parking can be a bit of a puzzle in this neighborhood, especially during summer months, but the trade-off is worth it. You’re walking distance to both the cable car station (skip the crowds and go up for sunset, not sunrise) and those gorgeous beaches that stretch toward Cavtat. The check-in was refreshingly straightforward too, no corporate nonsense or hidden fees. What really sealed the deal for me was discovering that little bakery about two blocks down that opens at 6 AM – their burek is absolutely perfect for those early morning walks along the coast before the day heats up. Golden Niche isn’t trying to be some flashy resort experience; it’s better than that. It’s the kind of place where you actually feel like you’re living in Dubrovnik for a few days, not just passing through it.

  Very modern and clean. Excellent facilities, completely home from home. Had 3 balconies to enjoy the view and relax on.
  Srdjan was the perfect host, providing all that was needed including coffee and wine!
  Was so relaxing to come back after a hot and tiring day out!
  There is a small supermarket next door which sells snacks, fruit, bread, drinks, cheese, meat, etc.
  
  What could be improved: Not a dislike but just beware the property (as are many in Dubrovnik) has a lot of stairs! We would walk to the old town (15mins) but then uber back (around €12-16)

  So much love and care was put into making sure our stay was phenomenal! The friendly host was there to welcome us and say goodbye when we left.He even managed got us into a fully booked restaurant 💃🏽. The place was incredible! Very Chic! Great attention to detail. Better than the pictures. The distance from the Old town was walking distance. I could go on and on 👌🏾

  This apartment is beautifully renovated to a high spec and extremely comfortable, with knockout views over the sea and the island of Locrum. There are four outside areas with a range of seating and the air in May is perfumed with blossom. The apartment’s in a residential area and is extremely quiet. The host is generous (a rare welcome pack was very welcome indeed) and solicitous. We took his offer of arranging the transfer and found the taxi service particularly good with charming and helpful drivers. The only drawback would be the number of steps to the apartment, which is not suitable for very infirm people. We are old ourselves so there’s nothing to fear if you are reasonably fit.

  Apartment has everything you could need: full kitchen facilities, dishwasher, washing machine etc. Everything is new and good quality. The three terraces are a standout feature, and the views are amazing.

  The host gave us a great welcome on arrival with fruit, wine, coffee, milk, juice, etc. The apartment was new, spacious and very tastefully decorated and equipped with all necessities. The view of the old town and sea was breathtaking. Two balconies and a beautiful terrace to enjoy the outdoors. We really lacked nothing. There is a small local shop in the adjacent complex and the bus stop is located directly at the bottom of the (long) stairs opposite the apartment. Furthermore, our luggage was taken care of upon departure and the bus service was of high quality. In short…we would love to come back again!
