Wouldnt stay there again. The place was very close to two of the gates which was very convenient.
What could be improved: There were so many rules posted everywhere in the room made me feel like I was in a monastery rather than being on a vacation. Plus that we have to take out out own trash, it should have been on AirBnB rather than on booking.com. Bed was very scratchy as well.
Guest House Blue Wave
Dubrovnik, Croatia
Guest House Blue Wave
Look, I'll be honest – when I first walked down Kovačka street looking for Guest House Blue Wave, I almost missed it completely.
Look, I’ll be honest – when I first walked down Kovačka street looking for Guest House Blue Wave, I almost missed it completely. It’s tucked into this narrow cobblestone lane in Old Town, which actually turned out to be perfect because you’re literally living inside Dubrovnik’s ancient walls without dealing with the chaos of Stradun (the main drag where all the cruise ship crowds funnel through).
The place has this unpretentious, family-run vibe that I really appreciated. You know what I mean? No fancy marble lobby or doormen in uniforms, just genuine Croatian hospitality. The rooms are clean and comfortable – nothing fancy, but honestly, who needs marble bathrooms when you can walk to the city walls in about three minutes? I stayed there in late September, and the stone walls actually kept things pretty cool during the day, though you might want to crack a window at night since the old buildings can get a bit stuffy. The owner, this friendly local guy, gave me better restaurant recommendations than any guidebook I’d read. He steered me away from the tourist traps on Pred Dvorom and pointed me toward this little konoba near St. Ignatius Church where the locals actually eat.
Here’s the thing about the location – and this is something you won’t realize until you’re actually staying there – being on Kovačka puts you in this sweet spot where you can duck into your room to escape the midday tourist swarms, but you’re still close enough to everything that matters. The morning coffee runs to that little café near the cathedral become part of your routine, and evening walks along the ramparts feel like you’re just stepping out your front door. Sure, you’ll hear some street noise during the day (it’s a medieval city, not a resort), but it quiets down surprisingly well after dinner when the day-trippers head back to their cruise ships. The 7.5 rating makes sense – it’s not luxury, but it’s exactly what you want from a three-star place in one of Europe’s most stunning old towns. I mean, you’re staying inside UNESCO World Heritage walls for probably half what you’d pay for some generic hotel outside the city. Just be prepared for narrow staircases and no elevator, because, well, medieval buildings weren’t exactly designed with modern convenience in mind.

What Our Guests Say
Traditional character building. Excellent communication, perfect location, lovely room, good value and breakfast.
What could be improved: Sadly something kept biting me every night! Strong drain smell, which to be fair we were told about when windows are open. No plug for sink which made using it hard when washing up etc.
Superb Cozy and clean room, tasty breakfast, quiet part of the street.
The location of the property is great but the bathroom really took away from our stay and made us uncomfortable to use Location and air conditioning
What could be improved: The bathroom. The shower water goes out into the rest of the bathroom and the stench from the sewer outside the window was awful and not warned prior to booking, disappointed in this
Superb Great location, the owner contacted us all the time and answered quickly, the apartment was small but very comfortable, perfect for two. We loved our staying here and Dubrovnik!
Superb Really appreciated my stay! The location is great and the room has everything you need. The bathroom was clean and everything worked as described. The owner of the house was there during my stay and she was very lovely!
What could be improved: Nothing, everything was perfect
Very pleasant and lovely stay :) Great location and everything we needed provided in the room, the owners were also very helpful
Our host provided detailed and timely information. The location was as good as it gets, the room was clean and quaint Great location.
Timely information
Clean and comfortable room
Great little room with everything I needed Very clean and location amazing
What could be improved: Quite a lot of steps to get there and back to the taxi but it’s in the old town so totally expected
Nice room in the middle of city centre. Nice room very nicely decorated, staff very kind and available. Very good location, perfectly in the middle of the old town.
What could be improved: Room was definitely too small for two people, no space for luggage or either for clothes. Also wished they advised the are MANY stairs to do and reach the room which made us very uncomfortable with two big luggage and the summer hot.
